For our son's 10th birthday, we had a Spiderman party.
Our home was decorated with red, blue and grey streamers woven like spiderwebs, balloons, and Spiderman party favors and decor purchased at a party store. We found instructions on the internet to make a spiderman out of animal balloons, and we attached him to the "web" of streamers on the livingroom celing. As the guests arrived, they were directed to a table to make superhero masks. We provided craft foam, scissors, glue and elastic. We had made paper templates for a full face mask or a "lone ranger" sytle mask, as well as a sample of each. After finishing our masks and taking group "superhero" photos, we had cake and ice cream. (The cake was a Spiderman cake purchased from a local bakery) Next, we played a version of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" where the kids had to stick a "Spiderman" emblem onto Spiderman's chest while blindfolded. The boy whose sticker was the closest won a Spiderman "back to school" set. Finally, we ended the party with a giant spiderweb. Before the party, in a back bedroom, we had tied each guest's party favor bag to a spool of string. Then, we hid the bag somewhere in the room and wound the string around furniture, over doorknobs, under throw rugs, etc. until the strings ran all over the room. The other end was attached to a pencil hung in the doorway of the room. By the time all 6 party favor bags had been arranged in the room this way, the entire room was a very tangled spiderweb. The boys had to pick up their pencil in the doorway and wind the string around the pencil, climbing over, under and through the web in the room, until they found their party bag at the end. While waiting for parents to arrive, we had animal balloons ready, and we let each boy try his hand at making various balloon animals.
