For my son's 8th birthday party , we decided to have an outdoor wet bash . Since there are no places close enough to play laser tag or paintball , we decided to come up with our own in a way .
For the invitations , I ordered blank paddle ball games for Oriental Trading and wrote the invites on them with markers , also asking each child to bring his/her own squirt gun and swimming
trunks/suit . The kids loved them , plus they gave the idea of plenty of games to be played . When the guest arrived ,they were instructed to go to the field for a quick game of flag football
(even some of the girls got into this ) while I finished up cooking hot dogs on the grill ,and mac n cheese . Unfortunaly it started to pour down raining while eating but that gave us
the chance to move inside for a quick activity and games. I ordered some blank frisbees from Oriental Trading as well and had each kid decorate their own being sure to put their names
somewhere on them . While we waited for the rain to stop , they played a game on the Wii and playstation2 . Before we went back outside , the kids changed into their swim gear and were each
handed an old white t-shirt and either a blue or red bandanna (you can order these or a local craft store )to decide the teams .Next we got to move back outside for Capture the Flag" .
To do this
we went to a local factory and stores and got some different size boxes but big enough for the kids to crawl into if they wanted and had them arranged them on two different sides . A couple adults filled up the water guns with some colored water (food coloring watered down fabric dye or even watered down kool-aid work get ) and kids took their sides. We played it just like paintball where you have to find the others team flag (bandanna) and return it to your side without getting "hit" . The white t-shirts and colored water made it very easy to figure out who was out and who wasn't .Plus after a few games the shirts begin to look like tie dye shirts. All the kids loved this and even some older children got into the action as well. After a few games of that we moved onto the traditional game of balloon toss. Next we had the kids get their frisbees to see who could make it further and then they played a couple games of it . For the cake we went off theme and had a dirtbike cake (for family fun site ) ice cream and sherbet punch. The sherbet punch was fruit punch 7-up and sherbet to keep it cold . Adults and kids both loved this ! After opening the gifts the kids got to jump into the pool to cool off as well as clean off so to speak .Everyone had a blast and when parents came to pick up their child all the kids had to do was dry off and change back into their clothes --making everyone happy . For party favors the kids got to keep their frisbees bandannas and shirts if they wanted to plus I had little bags with a couple things I ordered like a travel connect 4 game and some candy .It's been two weeks since the party and I'm still getting alot of positive feedback from parents as well as kids still talking about it .
