Backyard Beach Bash 6yr

November 2004

Wendy in Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada

We decided for our daughters 6th Birthday that we were going to have a Backyard Beach Bash. It went surprisingly well as 15 out of the 16 children invited attended. We began the party at 11:00am and strung Dollar Store lays around each child's neck as they walk into the backyard. Then we wrapped Hula Skirts(made out of Glad garbage bags and cut to look like a grass skirt) and the girls took off straight for the different centers that I had set up. One center was a tattoo parlour set up in a mosquito net. The tattoos were the ones that you color yourself and the girls could put as many on as they pleased.( some girls were covered in them from head to toe...definitely NOT a parent pleaser..OOPS!!).  The next center was water balloons that the girls could throw at a target I had painted on a old shower curtain liner, (recycle, recycle,recycle)...all 300 water balloons were shot off within minutes!!!!  Next I had a limbo area that the girls could limbo to their hearts content...and honestly...some became Masters at it!! Next I also had the sandbox overflowing with sand so they could make sandcastles, two pools filled with water and sponges in them for the girls to throw back and forth at each other. Lastly we had two sprinklers going steadily!! Of course all the girls came dressed for the beach and we added to the theme by playing Beach Boys and Hula music and we added an extra touch by dressing in Hawaiin clothing (my husband in a Hawaiin shirt and me in a wrap. Invitations were sunglasses with the party information on little pieces of paper taped to the lenses. The birthday cake was a white cake with ice cream cones on all four corners, covered with white icing and graham cracker crumbs...served up with ice cream. Lunch was hot dogs, Doritos and fruit Kabobs (the girls LOVED those).  Party favours were a water gun and as much candy they could take with one hand out of a bowl full!!!!! I covered the picnic tables outside with table cloths found at Walmart that were Lobsters in sand. Decorations were cardboard surf boards all over the front and backyard with surfer sayings on them. The girls were SO pooped out by the time 2:00 ( the end of the party) came they all layed their towels out in a line across out backyard and sunbathed until their parents came to get them.  We all had a BLAST!!!
