Bubble Party 1yr

August 2003

Lissa in Ft. Worth, TX, USA

For my son's first birthday party I wanted to do something that he would actually enjoy.  He loves bubbles, so I decided a bubble party was the way to go. I made invitations out of card stock and vellum. I used three different shades of blue and cut the paper into a large card stock circle, a medium vellum circle and a small vellum circle.  I printed the party information on the card stock circle and then used a glue stick to attach the vellum circles to the card stock in an overlapping manner. For decorations I found paper plates, napkins and cups at Target with polka dots in blue and green colors on them. I used different shades of blue for the cutlery, napkins and cups. I also cut out different shades of blue construction paper into circle and had them laying on the tables to look like bubbles.  I had a bubble machine blowing bubbles at the front door as the guests arrived.  Inside, I had blown up clear and white pearlized balloons and had them floating on the floor to look like bubbles.  I also had some blown up with helium and tied around the house. The cake had a boys face with hair and eyes like my son and a bubble wand on his mouth blowing bubbles(made of icing) all over the cake.  I also made round cookies on a stick and decorated them with different shades of blue icing. I put them in a galvanized bucket and filled it with crinkle confetti, so they looked like bubbles in a bath. These were for the kids to take home.  We filled two small swimming pools in the back yard with water and bubble bath. The kids just loved "swimming in bubbles". I gave all of the adults a bottle of bubbles and a wand to blow bubbles for the kids while we were outside. My son was asleep while I was decorating and when he woke up he was so excited. He sat on the floor with the bubble balloons and said "bub-bul" for the first 10 minutes.  Sometimes it is hard to come up with a birthday idea that a one year old will enjoy, but this was definitely it. We had three one year olds, a two year old, and a three year old at the party who all thorouhgly enjoyed it.
