Sports Party 4yr

March 2008

My son loves all sports, so we decided to hava a sports party. Before the party I made simple pom-poms out of crepe paper and tape for parents to wave and cheer for the kids. The parents loved them, and the kids loved getting cheered for! As each guest came, they made a pennant with their names on it out of craft foam from a craft store.  The first game we played was a sports obstacle course, where each child had to throw a football through a hula hoop, kick a soccer ball around cones and into a goal, putt a golf ball into a hole, and make a basket in a kid's basketball hoop. We timed them and put a sticker on each child with their time(at the end of the party they tried to beat their time).  The next game was called 4-corners" baseball soccer ball and golf ball one on each corner of the yard. I played music and all of the kids walked around the yard in a circle. When the music stopped they were to run to a corner no more than 3 kids to a corner. I then chose a card from the "hat" and would call out "football" (or whatever card I chose) and the kids in the "football" corner had to leave the game until there was one winner (when there are 4 or less players each one has to go to a different corner).  Next we had a relay race dividing into two teams.  We formed two lines and the first person in line on each team had to select from the "hat" a picture card of either a football basketball golf ball or soccer ball. When they selected their card they had to run and do the activity already set up from the obstacle course. When they made their basket putt football throw through the hula hoop or soccer goal they would run back to the end of the line and the next person would choose their card from the "hat" and do their activity. The first team done was the winner.  After each game the kids would go to the "prize box" with baseball cards pencils whistles stickers etc. and put their prize in their loot bag. After the games were done I called each child up and presented them with a plastic trophy (from Walmart) and everyone clapped and cheered with their pom-poms. The kids really burned off a lot of energy and had a great time!"
