We started planning this about a month ahead as my son really wanted a Pinata and all the Pinata's I found weren't very exciting so we created a Death Star" Pinata. I purcahsed the
largest balloon I could find (it could be blown up to 3 feet!) and we paper maiched it and tried to make it resemble it as close as possible - in the end we joked that it was the Death
Asteroid but it was fun to make! Invitations were sent out with the Wording - "Six Years ago in a Galaxy Far Away a boy was born with the power of the Force." Please join us
as Padawan _________ takes his final test to become a Jedi Knight. Invitations were addressed to the children as Padawan __________. It was printed w/a glaxay background in the Star
Wars font. For a first activity children created marble magnets - I downloaded images from a Star Wars Activity site and ordered the marble magnet kits from OTC. Quick easy and a
fun take home gift.
For the second activity we collected some basic information on my son's favorite characters and created a booklet for a Star Wars Jeporady game - parents assisted with this as they helped go over the material with the children. Teams were created and named after the planets mentioned in Star Wars. We had cake - kept simple with Yoda cake topper. Cake itself was vanilla & chocolate for light/dark sides of the force. For the third activity we utilized some games we had - Star Wars Lego (2 people can play at a time) and a Lightsaber training game. The kids were great about taking turns and had a lot of fun figuring out light saber moves. We also set out legos for the kids to create their own spaceships while others were playing. For the final activity the Padawans had to destroy the Death Star to move on and become a Jedi Knight - don't let anyone tell you that Paper Maiche isn't strong! It suprised us how long that thing withstood the attacks! Goody bags were already assembled w/the children's name on them in the Pinata - thus avoiding the scene of children grabbing candy out of each other's hand - they instead helped find one another's names. In the goody bag was homemade R2D2 and Yoda milk & dark chocolates. Stickers and bounce balls w/Darth Vader on it. I also purchased Jedi Training Handbooks as a goody gift which they recv'd as they "moved on" to the next level of their training - a little advanced for the young reader but it also came w/a light saber shaped pen so that was a big hit. I also had white chocolate and dark chocolate pretzels around the house and dark & milk chocolate M&Ms. I would have cut back on some of the information that I provided for the children for the Jedi Jeporady game thought I had simplified the info but it could have been shortened & simplified even more. It was a two hour party with cake no present opening. Death star pinata and playing the Lego game and light saber training video were the highlights. "
