Kids Birthday
Party Supplies

My son wanted a Star Wars party for his 8th birthday.  I got several great ideas off of this website. Since his birthday is in January, we needed to make sure we could keep several 7 and 8 year olds busy and happy indoors. At the beginning of the party, I had put out his Star Wars figures and spaceships for the kids to play with.  While this was going on and while the guests arrived (there were 13 in all) I had the children decorate circles I had cut from cardstock either into planets or into a Death Star, with markers, glitter glue and stickers. Not everyone wanted to do this, so those who didn't played with the Star Wars figures. Also during this, I had children take turns coming to see me for face painting.  I painted Yodas, lightsabers, planets or butterflies and rainbows for the girls. After everyone had a turn getting their face painted and everyone finished their planet, I had the kids go upstairs to our rec room for the games.  We played 3 games upstairs: Escape the Death Star, which was hot potato with a styrofoam ball covered in aluminum foil done to the Imperial March from the movies. This went over so well, we did this twice. Next was Light-saber Training.  We had the kids compete 2 at a time with two lightsabers and two balloons, keeping them up in the air as long as they could just using the lightsabers.  Then, we had the winners compete against each other until we had one winner overall.  This was a great game, just make sure you have plenty of room for this and that those not playing are well out of the way to prevent any mishaps!  Next we played Capture the Battle Droid.  I hid a picture of a battle droid in a balloon and blew it up.  The kids had to pop about 30 balloons to see who could find and capture the battle droid. The kids couldn't use their hands or mouths and I made sure the balloons were underinflated, so it took the kids quite a while and they used up quite a bit of energy doing this!  The last thing we did was called the Jedi Trials, something I made up. Prior to the party, I made up about 7 or 8 rhyming clues, printed them off of the computer and hid them around the house like a treasure hunt. I told the kids that they had completed their training as Padawans and that they were going to face the Jedi Trials. If they were successful, they would find some miniature lightsabers (mini light sticks) and would become full Jedi.  I gave the birthday boy the first clue to read out loud: "Food is what I like to hold, and I like to keep it cold." (answer: refrigerator)  I had told the children they had to work as a team and that Jedi do not run inside the house.  We had a couple of non-readers present so we told them that they could give the clue to me or another adult to read out loud. The children loved this and liked ending up at the coat closet to find lightsabers hidden in a bag. I told the children they were now Jedi and could have their lightsabers at the end of the party (I didn't want any of them to lose them or fight over them) and told them to grab their coats and go into the garage because we were going to do a pinata.  I put a lot of candy in the pinata to make sure there was enough for everyone to get plenty.  After the pinata was busted, I handed each child a bag to put their candy in. When they filed back inside, we put their names on their bags and kept them for them to receive at the end of the party.  After the pinata was cake and ice cream (homemade cake with my son's Star Wars figures on top) and ice cream cups and juice packs. After cake and ice cream, it was time for presents.  We had just finished up the last present and my son was thanking everyone when the parents started arriving to pick up their children.  Upon leaving everyone got a goody bag filled with a Star Wars blowout, Star Wars stickers, a toy spring, Star Wars fruit snacks, and a mini light stick(which I had put in while the kids were eating along with their planets they had decorated)not to mention their pinata candy. This party filled the entire 2 hours we had the children and they all had a great time.  In fact, two of my son's friends at school told him he had a really cool birthday party this past weekend.
