Star Wars - 5 year old
This site was very helpful in coming up with ideas for our party and for helping me to create our own. For my son's 5th birthday he wanted a Star Wars theme. DECORATIONS: To create the Star Wars galaxy in our playroom I used black plastic liner (Wal Mart $10 for 2 rolls) and hung it on the walls in our bonus room. I used Latex based glow in the dark paint (Home Depot $7) and painted large white paper cut outs of planets, moons, stars and constellations and hung them on the plastic. I used acrylic colored glow paint to add effects. The paint works best on light colored backgrounds although I did paint on the black liner. We used a black light which helped with the glow in the dark paint while allowing us to see. During a few of the games we did use a small lamp to allow us to see well. We played the Star Wars theme music in the background. GAMES: 1) I painted rocks with glow in the dark paint and hid them in the bonus room - this game was called "Save the Millennium Falcon from Darth Vader's asteroids" - they hunted for the rocks, some had starbursts taped to them. 2) "Save Princess Leia" - I printed a photo of Leia off the web and hid it in a balloon. The kids had to rescue her by sitting or stomping on balloons to find her (cheap balloons pop best)3) My husband came in with a Vader mask on and the kids took turns battling him in a light saber contest (using swim noodles cut in half.) We also shot space shooter discs at Vader 4)" Use the Jedi force"....kids each took a turn seeing how many times they could use their "noodle" light saber and tap a balloon to keep it in the air. The kid keeping it up the longest won a prize. 5) I found a light up glow ball at $1 store and put it in a Pringles chip can. I wrapped the can in tin foil. This game was called "Escape Darth's Detonator". The kids spread out across the room and had to pass the can to one another. If the can moved and the ball bounced it would glow and flash. This was fun to do in the dark because the flashing light was so cool. Each time you made the light flash you were out and the last person standing won. The kids were pretty good at this game, so we spiced it up and made them hop or walk with a hand in the air. GOODY BAGS: Glow stick, Star Wars fruit snacks, Star Wars stickers and starburst.
