A Simple Star Wars Birthday Party for 5 years old. This was a very simple and enjoyable party at home for my 5 year old and his friends, most of whom are huge Star Wars fans. The invitations were regular Star Wars invites from the local party store (as were plates, cups and napkins). Since little kids enjoy dressing up, we added that Star Wars, Superheros and other costumes were optional.  5 out of 7 came in a costume. Upon arrival, I had plastic light sabers, one for each kid, from the toy store - these were the gift" for them to take home after the party.  As our living room is still unfurnished they played in there - if it hadn't been so cold outside they would have gone outdoors to play. As soon as the last child arrived we served pizza and juice boxes and milk.  I bought from the party store a large gift bag with Darth Vader on one side Yoda on the other and some action scenes on the side panels. I cut the bag taped Darth Vader to the front door the action scenes around the house and used Yoda to play "Pin the Light Saber on Yoda" after they finished eating the pizza. I cut different colored light sabers out of construction paper used a sleeping mask for the blindfold (a folded scarf will do). I put doubleface tape on each paper saber.  Each child picked out a saber I wrote the child's name on it masked and spun the child around twice and set him/her in the direction of Yoda. While there were no prizes for this we all cheered and laughed at where each light saber ended up.  It was good fun.  Then the big craft followed: I bought syrofoam balls of various size and styrofoam bases at the local craft store.  I used acrylic paint and glitter glue to paint the balls ahead of time - to save time and mostly to prevent huge mess (maybe with older kids I would let them paint).  I put the paint in a plastic grocery bag to rub the balls with paint and then glitter glued them once dry.  Using bamboo skewers and tooth picks the kids created their own fantasy galaxies.  We also used sparkly pipe cleaners for shooting stars plantary rings and solar activities. Once finished we had a Darth Vader pinata with the ribbons to pull. Each child held a ribbon and pulled them at once. Once all the candy was collected we moved on to the cake.  I used a cake mix and covered it in icing that I colored dark gray (mixed it with red green and blue food coloring - you could also mix black with white). Then I took some flat Lego pieces covered the bottom with foil and put some Star Wars Lego figures on them. Star Wars action figures could also be used. Then I took the white icing (put in a plastic bag and cut the bottom corner for a pastry bag) and wrote Happy Birthday... You can also write things like "May the Force Be With You" or "A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far Far Away..."  After cake the kids took up their light sabers and had a great time even the girls who had no idea what Star Wars was. No one wanted to go home!"
