The love for Star Wars never seems to end; it just continues to pass from generation to generation.  So to keep the tradition of course we had to have a Star Wars party for our son's 5th birthday. I found many of the idea's on this site, but added my own flavor.  INVITATIONS For the invitations we took a picture of our son posing in his Luke Skywalker costume then using Photoshop we created our own invitation making them look like the opening scroll of the Star Wars movies. We then printed them at FedEx Kinko's and purchased our own envelopes. (Total cost $10)  I plan to make thank you cards the same way.  DECORATIONS We kept the decorations simple with streamers and lots of ballons. We also had quite a bit of original Star Wars toys and posters that came in handy for decorations.   ACTIVITIES, GAMES & COSTUMES 1.To start off, when the boys arrived they received their Jedi vests and belts (I used felt to make the vests and just cut a V shape out for their heads to fit thru). I let them know they were now a padawan in training and to enter the party they needed to remove their shoes and go through a tunnel.   2.Once everyone arrived we began our Jedi training. First off they needed to figure out their Jedi names.  With the help of an adult they found cards with their names on them and then needed to spell their name backwards. For example Corran was Jedi Narroc".   3.Next up and the boys used that to make the handles however they wanted.  Once the lights sabers were ready we just let them play for about 10 minuets before we began our light saber training. For light saber training we simply played keep the balloon off the floor.  4.Once that game was done all the boys were a bit warm so we headed outside to practice using the force. Each of the boys were told to close their eyes and stretch out their feelings and hands to lift the garage door the look on their faces was great and I think we may have even fooled a few of them.   5.Every Jedi must pass his obstacle course training so we created a short one for the kids.  5 jumping jacks drop and roll don't let the laser beams touch you (we had streamers in our entry from ceiling and almost to floor) part of the challenge was to go under the "laser beamsť without touching them then thru the tube and up the stairs.  We did one boy at a time and had the boys cheer each other on.  6. Next up destroy the death star!!!!  My son husband and I made our own Death Star pinata our son had such fun making it and it was so simple.  7.After the pinata it was time for the Jedi Academy graduation ceremony.  We played the music from the end of New Hope and each Jedi received his own cloak. The cost was very little.  I searched the local fabric stores remnants in brown and black.  Each cloak was a little different and I think the cost for all 7 cloaks & vests was $15. Their faces when they received their own cloaks were priceless.  To finish we opened gifts and of course the R2-D2 cake that my mother-in-law made using the same R2-D2 cake pan from my husband's birthdays when he was little.  It was truly a special birthday and now the bar has been raised. My son is already talking about next year's plans for his football party.  "
