Awesome Star Wars Party!!! First, we work VERY HARD on the invitations. I almost hate to share it, but all the kids and parents were so impressed. We printed in on cotton paper, simply folded
in half addressed to the guest.
IN A GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY, ON THE MORNING OF (the childs actual birthdate), A BABY BOY WAS BORN. THE JEDI COUNCIL NAMED HIM (the child's name) AND THEY KNEW HE WAS THE CHOSEN ONE. IN THE (age of the child) YEARS THAT FOLLOWED HIS BIRTH, YOUNG (the child's name) HAS BEEN LEARNING THE POWERS OF THE FORCE. MEANWHILE, THE REPUBLIC DISCOVERED A NEW ENEMY. THE JEDI KNIGHTS FELT A STRONG DISTURBANCE IN THE FORCE. FEAR, PAIN AND SUFFERING HAVE OPENED THE PATH TO THE DARKSIDE…. MANY JEDI KNIGHTS HAVE BEEN LOST. THE VERY FUTURE OF THE JEDI ORDER IS NOW IN JEOPARDY. YOUNG PADAWAN (the child's name) HAS BEEN CALLED BY THE JEDI COUNCIL TO SEEK OUT FUTURE JEDI. MASTER YODA IS URGING THE YOUNGLINGS TO COMPLETE THEIR TRAINING AND TAKE PART IN THE UPCOMING TRIALS. PADAWAN (guest's name) PRESENCE IS REQUESTED TO COMPLETE THEIR JEDI TRAINING AND PREPARE FOR THE TRIALS ON (the date of the party). TRANSPORT TO THE JEDI TEMPLE, ON CORUSCANT, WILL BE DEPARTING PROMPTLY AT (time of party) FROM THE (last name) SYSTEM, DOCKING BAY (street address). PLEASE ADVISE THE JEDI COUNCIL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AT (phone number) AS WHETHER PADAWAN (guest's name) WILL ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE OF THE TRIALS. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU! (then in small print at the bottom of the page) PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO NEW SECURITY PROTOCOLS IN THE REPUBLIC, NO WEAPONS WILL BE ALLOWED ON ALL TRANSPORT VESSELS. PLEASE FORGIVE THE INCONVIENCE AND REST ASSURED THAT THE JEDI COUNCIL HAS SECURED ENOUGH EQUIPMENT FOR THE PADAWANS TO COMPLETE THEIR TRAINNING. We then made simple tunics for each child out of a single piece of fabric draped around their shoulders, tied with a sash. Premade pipe insulation foam light sabers. Each piece of foam creates 3 sabers. Used the painter tape for the blade colors (blue, green and yellow) and duct tape and electrician tape for the handles. It was only about $1 per saber. Then we set up missions for the kids. Simple as they were, the kids loved it. After all the kids were outfitted, we took a group picture. One mission was they had to rescue Princess Dolly (my 2 year old's Doll). They had to completely cross the yard without stepping on the grass. They has some boards ( of different length & widths) to assist, but they would only reach 1/4 the way across the yard. They had to work together and plan to make it. When they did make it, I figured that would be the end of it, but they insisted on returning. This took about 45 minutes total. The second mission was to "destroy" the droid army. We has a waterballoon launcher, and chalked some "droids" on the pavement. The kids launched the balloons in an effort to get the droids. I have never seen so many little boys wait so patiently in my entire life. Use regular balloons, the waterballoons pop before they are release. Between missions we had snacks: popscicles, long pretzels, cheese sticks, etc. you get the idea. We made a 4' long light saber cake using simple rectangles. The handle was Chocolate and the blade Vanilla. It was a simple cake, but very impressive due to the length. Instead of ice cream we had floats. Using a 1/2 & 1/2 mixutre of Sprite and Blue Kool-aid and 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream. The kids were all excited to eat this strange creation. For the goodie bags, I found some great items really cheap on ebay. We tied a string around the goodie bag and sort of made a spider web with all the strings... We wrapped the strings around trees, between chairs. It was all over the backyard. The kids had to follow their string to their bag. The kids were all climbing over each other. The kids all really enjoyed the day. I heard for the next month a number of of Jedi victories.
