Star Wars Party for 4 y/o boy Just finished my son's BD party, and it was a success!
For decorations, I hung stars and a Star Wars Happy BD banner, and some silver streamers. It was somewhat last minute, so I used Star Wars papergoods purchased from a party supply store, including the invitations. A couple days before the party, I had made up cardboard box spaceships, which were small/med cardboard boxes with the bottoms and tops either cut out or folded in, and covered in tin foil, then added string "suspenders" to go over the kids' shoulders. So the first thing we did as the kids arrived was to decorate their spaceships with glitter glue and glued-on "jewels" and sequins. Then they went to play in our small playset which I had decorated with silver doorway "curtain" streamers. I told them they were all Padawans (Jedis in training) and they were on a mission. They had to fly this spaceship, but they had to watch out for meteor showers and also for Jango Fett, who was chasing them. After they flew the spaceship for a few minutes, I dumped gold balloons all over them (meteors), then my 8 y/o son began chasing them with a laser gun (he was Jango Fett). The little ones got in their little spaceships they had decorated, and they each got a water gun, and they all started chasing Jango Fett! Once they defeated him, we had a meteorite scavenger hunt. I had spray-painted (gold) small rocks from my driveway and hidden them around the swingset. I gave them each these really cool little metallic colored canisters on a string that could be worn around the neck (Oriental Trading, real cheap) to put them in. The kids loved the canisters! Next it was time for the Jedi trials. Basically, I had them each run through an obstacle course to test for speed and agility. When they had each done that, they took turns in a light saber fight, again with my older son. If they proved their worth with the light saber, they received a medal (from a party supply store) that meant they were now an official Jedi. Then I called all my Jedis to me and pointed out that the dreaded Death Star was about to bring an end to the galaxy. I needed the Jedis to destroy the Death Star (a star-shaped pinata). After they did the pinata, it was time for cake/ ice cream and then presents. We finished up by playing "light, light, saber" (duck, duck goose) and free play. The party favor bags had a glow stick, a glow-in-the-dark star, a moon pie, Star Bursts, Star Wars stickers and Pop Rocks. They also each got a Star Wars book that my older son no longer wanted (from when he was in a Scholastic Star Wars club), their water guns, their canister full of gold rocks, their spaceship and their paperbag of pinata prizes. My little guy had the time of his life, and all his friends really had a fantastic time! Only change I would make would be the spacehips. They sounded really good in theory, but the kids weren't that into decorating them, and it was more time consuming to cut and cover them with foil than I thought it would be. As always, I couldn't have done this party without the help of all the creative ideas I've found here, so thanks everyone!
