Star Wars party for 6 years old.
Party was held in my garden last year, starting in the early evening and ending at 8pm so it would be dark enough for the light sabers to glow.It was all very high-tech as befitting the them and thanks to a very tech minded Daddy. We sent out invitations on CD-ROMS - yellow type on dark starscape background moving away like in the opening of the movies, with the opening theme playing in the background. Similar wording to the written invitations that were posted on this website ie "A not-so-long time in the future, in a galaxy not-so-far from here, Padawan Christopher will have his birthday. He invites all other Jedi Padawans to come join him at the spaceport of XXX where they will embark on a mission..etc". There were clickable links to email Christopher for RSVPs and the map to our house. Downloaded a Starwars poster from the website and superimposed my son's face on Anakin, then used it to print CD labels. Also had basic information written on the CD cover in case there were any non-techie parents who couldn't run the CD-ROM! Same poster was also used for the cake, from a shop in Singapore called "Sweet Secrets" who can print any picture on rice paper and use it for cake decoration. A class photograph provided pictures of his friends faces which we then superimposed on various downloaded Starwars posters and hung around the house. They were a real hit with the kids.Other decorations - glow in the dark stars and star tinsel. Made Jedi costumes for my 2 sons (long cloths tied at the waist with another cloth) and little Padawan plaits attached with hairpins. Adult hosts were as Princess Leia (white bathrobe and plaited black wool hair in earphone style - which later fell off my head onto the cake (but that's another story)) and Han Solo (open necked shirt and hunting vest) We ran the Star Wars movies to keep the parents entertained while the kids played. On arrival, they made their own light sabers- toilet paper rolls wrapped in kitchen foil handles and a GLO-stick stuck inside a long balloon, blown up, pushed into the handles and taped down. Markers and stickers were provided for the kids to decorate the light sabers. Jedi light saber training followed then Darth Vader arrived - got a friend to dress up in black clothes cape and mask (from Toys'R'Us)and the Jedi attacked and killed him. Find the hidden space-ships followed - like a egg hunt, in the garden for plastic push out spaceship models which they then assembled. Food include light sabres- cocktail sausages with strips of either carrot or cucmber pushed in length-wise and crackers in the shape of stars and blue 7-up in plastic wine glasses. It was such a hit that Chris wants the SAME party again for his 7th birthday this year!
