My son loves Star Wars so I knew that had to be the theme for his 3rd birthday.  This site really helped me come up with some great ideas and we settled with the Jedi Training Academy theme. I printed my own invitations using a lot of the wording found here. I found Star Wars scrap-booking paper.  Then I printed the invites on vellum paper and used little brads to attach it to the scrapbook paper which I attached to black cardstock. I used everything Star Wars related that we owned.  We have a 3 foot tall R2-D2 that was sitting on the entry table with balloons around him including the Mylar Darth Vader balloon. We have a 2nd story landing that looks down on the 1st floor so I used fishing line to hang his Millennium Falcon and Tie Fighter toys so that they were flying overhead as the guests entered. I painted a sign with the logo of the Jedi Academy that read Welcome to the Jedi Training Academy¯ which we hung over the TV in the living room. We had toys up on shelves throughout the living room (Yoda Magic 8 ball¯, Vader Pez dispenser, Walker, etc.) My brother and husband were volunteered to be the Jedi Master and a Sith Lord (my brothers name is Ben so he was Uncle Ben Kenobi and my husband became Darth Dadious). We thought about renting a costume, but I was worried the kids might be afraid of the mask, so he just wore all black with a black hooded cape that I made along with the Jedi tunics. As the kids arrived we dressed them in their Padawan training uniforms and they were sent to the table to decorate picture frames made of black card stock with stickers. Then the Jedi trainer entered and training began with much fanfare. We had music playing in the background and I just cued up the songs I wanted when necessary. Next we tested their speed skills with Pass the Thermal Detonator¯. I covered a small ball with foil, wrapped a band of electrical tape around it and glued on a red dot.  This was the favorite game. Then they moved outside to test their observation skills with Probe Droid Recovery¯.  They found little toys inside tin foil and brought them back to the Jedi who collected them in a bowl so we could divide them up.  Then they tested their Force Push skills with a ring toss.  I used my sons train table with cardboard around three sides as the game table. I flipped over the train picture side so it was just green and used earthquake putty to attach every action figure he had. The kids used glow bracelets as the rings and everyone took several turns.  We did a game of Jedi Says to test their skills at following commands last. Then it was time for the Jedi Saber Training. I passed out light sabers that I ordered online (Windy City Novelties) for about $4 each!  The kids were so excited. They extended and lit up great bargain. We followed the same pattern that Disneyland uses left shoulder, right shoulder, right leg, left leg, duck, to the head.  The kids loved it.  Then Darth Dadious came down stairs and fought Uncle Ben Kenobi. Then each child got a few turns fighting Darth before he made his escape. While the kids were fighting my sister in law took pictures of each kid in action. My brother continued to play with the kids for a while then did the medal presentation (could have skipped that they didn't really care) Then we had lunch.  I did all the themed foods I found on here pizza the Hutt, Darth Maul Dogs, Yoda Soda (really yummy), pretzel sabers, fruit, chips, dip, etc.  Then we did the cupcake cake from Wal-Mart and opened gifts. While all the food stuff was going on, we printed pictures of the kids from the party and put them in their decorated frames and put a strip of magnet tape on the back. I put them in the kids goody bags and got tons of thank you'¯s from the moms. The goody bags also had small sticker activity books, pencils and pencil sharpeners, rubber balls, glow bracelets, some princess jewelry for the girls and fruit snacks (all in Star Wars theme).  I used blue lunch bags with the kids names printed on stickers and sealed with a Star Wars sticker. They also got their light sabers and costumes. For thank you notes, I printed out coloring pages that read Thanks for coming to my party!  Love, Riley and had him color the pictures and I wrote a note on the back. It was a very successful party overall, although some kids got stuck in traffic, but you can't help that in LA. My son still talks about it and loves to see his picture on the fridge.
