This is the second year my son wanted a Star Wars/Clone Wars party. We had an evening gathering for elderly grandmas on his actual birthday, and made a light saber CAKE. I used a rectangular shaped pan 9x18, carrot cake and cut the light" part by making diagonal cuts and putting the light part together I used the a cream cheese frosting and sprinkled purple decorations (he wanted a purple light saber).  The handle was made from a 9x9 pan I cut out a handle shape chocolate cake with chocolate frosting then sprinkled it with black sprinkles (from halloween decorations). I used M&M's for the "buttons" on the handle. For his "friends" party the INVITATIONS I used a word processing program and downloaded a picture of my son dressed up as a Jedi. I encouraged everyone to come dressed in StarWars costumes. I rented a "martial arts" studio which had equipment we could borrow (chairs tables etc). ACTIVITIES: As everyone arrived we had Star Wars music playing and a table with large StarWars coloring pictures with a bucket of markers for "down time". We had pizza and boxed juice since I didn't want any spills on the floor mats. Games we played were "pass the orbit".  This game was like "hot potato" but I put two cat toys "balls with bells" inside two balloons blew up the balloons and children passed the balloons around the circle while we stopped the StarWars music occassionally so kids would be "out". The next game children each had a balloon that they balanced/hit with their light sabers.  I bought the bubble wands from Wal**** for a dollar then emptied the bubble soap from inside (I was worried the bubble soap would leak on the floor mats). On their knees they balanced/hit the balloons in the air with the StarWars music going in the background. After that I had children go to the tables and color the "giant" coloring pictures or play with Legos while I set up an obstacle course. I used items I had like hula hoops a crawl tunnel pieces of cloth as well as cones balance beams and round field markers to set up different obstacles for them to go through around and jump over. I had my son carry a Yoda backpack on his back.  Children really liked this and went through it several times. For the next activity children had to figure out a code that would give them a hint on how they could break the pinata.  They each got to pop one balloon and within each balloon I had a piece of paper with one letter.  When they popped their one balloon they brought back the letter to a central meeting area and together as a group they had to "unscrabble" the code. The code was "Jedi use the force".  Each word was color coded so it would be easier for them to decode it. For example the word "the" all letters were written on red paper each letter separated in 3 different balloons "force" was written on green paper etc.  AFter they decoded the "hint" we took turns hitting the pinata.  The next activity after we played "Master says" just like Simon Says.  We then had cake and ice cream and opened presents. As other activities were happening I had two parents re-fill the bubble wands and write their names on them. So as "party favors" they had the pinata goodies and a bubble wand to take home.  It lasted an hour longer than we had planned (3 hours all together) and didn't get all activities done.  Other activities I planned was "pin the light saber on Yoda" a giant cartoon page I colored and made paper light sabers for each child to color and pin Elevate Yoda (a doll) on a parachute (like they use in elementary school) and kids would work together to bounce Yoda higher and higher and a crossword puzzle and maze that I made on the internet for free then copied enough copies for everyone.  I think I will put them into the thank you cards since we didn't use them at the party. Everyone seemed to have a great time of course there was no way to stopping the inevitable "light saber duels" between the children during "down time" but they were reminded to be gentle and they all did a great job treating each other gently and respectfully not to hurt each other."
