Dress and theme: My daughter's one year old theme was Strawberry Shortcake. I picked because of the nostalgia of Strawberry Shortcake (SS) when I was a kid. I did a ton of shopping on
ebay for this party. First I got her party dress, bloomers and hat off of ebay. The lady made a very unique dress with SS patterns and striped pink, white red and green. There I
go the idea of making red, green and pink the colors
for her party. I then bought a dozen strawberry coin purses, removable wall stick ups, personalized candy wrappers for lifesavers that said my daughter's name and her Birthday and a SS doll in the style of when I was kid rather than the new SS. Decor: I bought a few sets of SS paper-ware but I also bought pink and red paper and plastic-ware and napkins as well as a couple of serving trays. I also got the strawberry gift bags and good chocolate candy and the strawberry hard candies with the strawberry wrapper were a must as well as some stuff to entertain the kids! I got the store invitations but personally wrote out every card to whoever it was going to and a berry special message (i.e. I hope to see you on my berry special day!). I decorated the envelope w/ SS stickers. My house is not big so I rented at a GREAT park that has a really big playground with a tot lot for the little ones. The building had 10 tables, 50 chairs and was air-conditioned which was great for my daughter's July birthday in Miami! I had help totally personalizing the place by putting up the removable wall stick-ups of SS in various poses all over the walls. I had plastic linens for each table w/ SS of course. My mother in law made the centerpieces. She baked sugar cookies shaped as flowers with different color frosting. Then she put a stick through them and placed them in a ceramic pot that she had a red and white ribbon on and SS stickers with fake green grass at the base so it looked like they were really growing. I tied a bunch of pink, green and red balloons to the pots, spread the Strawberry hard candies all over the table and tore out pages of an SS coloring book and spread crayons all over the table as well. The coloring book pages not only kept the kids entertained but the adults as well. Fun food: The cake was a three tier pink butter cream with a rubber SS sitting on the grass holding her cat. I got the topper off of an SS bubble bath set. The top for the cake had green frosting that looked like grass upon which SS was sitting. There were fondant strawberries spread out sporadically on the cake tiers. I also had several strawberries and an extremely simple recipe of chocolate (1 can fat free sweetened condensed milk and 1 can chocolate syrup) so people could have chocolate covered strawberries as well. The main cake table had a couple of those ceramic pots with sugar cookie flowers and an almost life size SS balloon behind the table that came out in every picture. My mother in law also made milk chocolate pops molded like strawberries for everyone. I also had mini chug bottle of strawberry milk so the little ones could have a kinda healthy treat. Entertainment: I hired a lady to run a snow cone machine and she was stationed just outside next to the playground with strawberry flavored syrup. It was a great treat to cool off. I also had a SS character show up and sit with the kids, sing songs and dance and be there for the singing of Happy Birthday. I had one game since the great big playground entertained them wonderfully. Since I do not believe in winners and losers at a birthday party I tied pink paper with numbers 1-4 on some nearby trees and green papers 1-4 on another bunch of trees. I gave the kids, some accompanied with their parents or older siblings, strips of papers with 1-4, pink for girls and green for boys. Then I just had them run and do a scavenger hunt. They had to find the corresponding numbers and color on the tree and they could have one item under that tree. Girls got SS sunglasses and the strawberry coin purses boys got two mini sports balls (baseball, basketball, etcà) and both got bubbles and the goodie bag with a playful straw with wispy metallic strands and tooting toy with the same fun strands so they could make noise. Everyone also got something. No one left empty handed! We also had a pinata. I got the strawberry pinata that was meant for hitting and with a little cutting and pink ribbon I turned it into the kind that you pull. The kids used their goody bags to store all the candy they got. I had a little girl tell her mommy ôI didn't have a good time, I had an awesome time!ö My daughter loved it, loved being carried by the SS character and was not at all fussy or overwhelmed. Everyone was thankful for being in the AC as well and all the kids went home with something, which made me happy! I had a lot of fun with this party!
