For our granddaughter's 5th birthday, she chose STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE as her theme. We had an afternoon patio party at our home. I purchased all of the Strawberry Shortcake party
accessories, plates, napkins, etc. but I also added, red, pink and lime green plates and napkins too.
We purchased red, pink, lime green, lavender and white balloons. Our granddaughter has several of the Strawberry Shortcake character dolls and I used the dolls as centerpieces for the tables and attached 5 balloons (one of each color) to the dolls. I also purchased several of the 3ft. Strawberry Shortcake character balloons, had weights attached to them and placed those in various places around the patio. We also tied balloons to the children's chairs. For games, I made a 36 inch Strawberry Shortcake charcter with a huge hat decorated with a strawberry and glued it to a poster board. I then cut out strawberries and stems from construction paper, added the black seeds and laminated each one, placed doublesided sticky tape to the backs, for a game of pin the strawberry on Strawberry Shortcake's hat. Before I the laminated strawberries, I deliberately left the seeds off of one of the strawberries. Before the children began the game, I placed all of the laminated strawberries in a bag and had them each pick one. The one who drew the strawberry without the seeds won a prize. Then each of the children were blindfolded and tried to stick their strawberry as close as they could to the strawberry on her hat. I also made a strawberry bean bag out of red material and used green felt and a green pipe cleaner for the stem. The children sat in a circle and passed the strawberry bean bag to each other while Strawberry Shortcake music played on the CD player. When the music stopped, whoever held the strawberry was out until the very last one. We also had a strawberry pinata. Unfortunately after I had ordered it, I realized that it was not the magic pull string type. I know that some parents don't like the idea of hitting the pinati, so I transformed the pinata into a magic string pinata. I simply cut a three-sided square hole in the bottom, attached 20-25 different color ribbons to the bottom of the pinata and one to the hole I had cut making sure that when the magic string was pulled, all of the goodies would fall out. For food, we made peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwiches and cut them each into a heart shape with a heart shape cookie cutter. I tried to find a strawberry shaped cutter but was unsuccessful. To keep in theme with all of the characters, I also served apples with carmel dip, blueberry yogurt, and strawberry applesauce. I knew that when you have a lot of sweet stuff, you should also serve something hot so I prepared small bagel pizza bites, not quite part of theme but the children loved them. We also served a strawberry greens salad. And to drink, we had strawberry punch served with slices of oranges and strawberry milk. For dessert, the cake was made by a friend of my daughter's who copied the Strawberry Shortcake invitation. The inside of the cake was a red and pink swirl. I also served miniature strawberry shortcakes and topped them each with a strawberry shortcake party decoration that I bought at my local party store. We also hired a balloon magician who included the birthday girl and each of the children in his magic acts. As a treat, he shaped his balloons into a strawberry and stem for each of the little girls. For the little boys, the magician made them each a dog shaped balloon. Our presents for our granddaughter, were wrapped in solid color pink, red, lime green and strawberry shortcake character paper. I also attached opposite color ribbons to each package. For example, if I wrapped a present in red, I tied pink, green and white to it. If I wrapped the present in pink, I tied, green red and white and just kept mix-matching the ribbons. All of the children had a great time and even the parents were surpirsed at the games and prizes we had selected for the party. I was able to get some ideas from the website and I hope someone else will be able to use some of my ideas. Enjoy. It was a lot of fun.
