Strawberry Shortcake Party for a 5 year old. For invitations, I bought Strawberry Shortcake paper plates and cut out the inside circle. I printed the party invitation on a translucent vellum and connected it to the circle with a hole punch and pink ribbon tied into a bow. For activities, we played pin the strawberry on Strawberry Shortcake's hat (the poster came in a Stawberry Shortcake birthday girl kit which I bought from Party City. We cut out strawberry shapes from red construction paper, added green to the top and then painted them with unsweetened strawberry Koolaid so that they smelled strawberry sweet.  The Strawberry Shortcake birthday girl kit came with a small birthday book which allowed the birthday girl's guests to sign in and then to add pictures later.  I bought a Strawberry Shortcake camera from Toys R Us so that the birthday girl could take pictures at the party which we will add to her book. We played search for treasures by putting polished rocks, fake coins and strawberry charms in a 3X2 box of sand and gave the children sifter toys and a pink, organza bag to collect their treasures (because the organza is porous the sand could come out but the treasures did not.  We rented a Strawberry Shortcake jumper which was a little hard to find until we found out that it was called "Strawberry Girl" bouncer. About four weeks before the party, we colored sugar with food coloring and then put it into plastic ketchup dispenser bottles. We bought small plastic containers with lids and let the children make sugar art.  Once they finished and sealed the bottle, we had sticker jewels to decorate the bottle. We also had a bead craft which I bought from Oriental Trading Co. We bought a pull string pinata - that was a "decorate your own" and put a Strawberry Shortcake balloon on the front. This was the first time I had used a pull string pinata and it was a blast.  This type of pinata is not violent, no one has a chance of getting hurt and the kids still had a great time with it. We put on a puppet show, put on by Grandpa and two of the older nieces and nephews, with a Strawberry Shortcake puppet as the main character.  For the cake, I purchased a large cake from Costco and asked that they make the flowers red, pink and light green. I then added a Strawberry Shortcake party hat as a backdrop, a small Strawberry Shortcake doll, pupcake and custard as decoration.  Instead of buying throwaway favor bags, I bought canvas bags from Oriental Trading Co with strawberries on them. This way the girls could keep them as "purses." The party was outside on the lawn. I bought about 25 small beach balls and scattered them about for everyone to play with.  I also put our children's pop up tent with tunnel on the main lawn for little ones to crawl through.  There were boys and girls ranging from 9 months to 12 years at the party and everyone seemed to have a great time with the activities.  Although I was exhausted by the end of the day, my little girl had a wonderful time and it was such a joy seeing all the children enjoy themselves!
