For my daughter's first birthday, we decided on a Strawberry Shortcake theme. I made the invitations (50 of them) by overlapping red, lime green and bright pink cardstock. I printed and pasted a picture of strawberry short cake with It's a berry special party printed underneath. The invitation went on to read, We're celebrating a berry special day, and you're invited! and of coarse all the details. I trimmed the outer edges of the invitation with curved scissors and threaded coordinating ribbon on top. I added the same strawberry shortcake picture to the return address labels I printed and placed them along with a First Birthday sticker (found at a Party Warehouse store) on each of the envelopes.  We decorated the table at the small rental hall we used, in either red, lime green or bright pink plastic tablecloths and tabletops made from items bought at a Dollar Tree store. In the middle of each table we placed a foam square covered with again red, lime green and bright pink tissue paper. On top of it was a metal strawberry shortcake coin bank, which we tied on a green, red, and pink balloon to. We spread strawberry short cake confetti to complete the look and personalized each tabletop with round tags I printed that read my daughter's name and First Birthday Party around the same strawberry shortcake picture used before. The cake, gift, and crafts tables were covered with strawberry shortcake tablecloths. Behind the cake and gifts we hung a banner we found (at Party Warehouse) that just our luck was bright pink and lime green with white dots that read Happy First Birthday and had space to personalize it! Surrounding the banner we placed strawberry shortcake wall cutouts (also purchased at PW) I added a recent studio picture of my daughter in between the cake and gifts tables. We used Strawberry Shortcake plates, napkins and cups but added solid lime green, red, and bright pink plates, cups, napkins and utensils as well.  We invited most of our family and friends so we had adults and children of all ages. As guest arrived, we showed them the buffet table we had prepared at let them self serve. The children were given a box of crayons (ordered from Oriental Trading) and a coloring page torn from a strawberry shortcake activity coloring book (bought at Dollar Tree). I made sure to give the older kids pages with activities on them. Once they were done eating and coloring the children would decorate their own candy bags. Using red ink pads, they would imprint their thumbprints onto the bags and use black and green markers to make them look like strawberries. I had plenty of wipes and markers available. They wrote their names and held on to the bags until it was time to hit the pinata. We played pin the number one on Strawberry shortcake. I found a Strawberry Shortcake poster (at Dollar Tree) and printed and cut out a number one. Each child was blind folded and tried to  place the number on n a designated spot on the poster, if they got it they received a small candy if not they went to the back of the line to try again. We played a version of hot potato. Everyone sat in a circle and passed a basket full of small candies. As you passed the basket you were allowed to take a candy once the music stopped you were out. The person holding the basket last received a candy bar. W e then used the same basket and tossed berries. After forming a line, each child would receive three red skittles candy packs. giving them three chances to get them in the basket. However many they made in they got to keep if they did not make any they went back to the end of the line. We played until everyone had some candy! Finally, we played Can She.  I mad a list of things my one year old could and could not do and ask the children to guess the right answer. If they thought she could they would stand up if they thought she couldn't they would stay seated. Only those guessing correctly remained in the game wining more candy! By then I had ensured that everyone had some treats and with their candy bags in hand we went outside to break the pinata. The pinata was a four-foot strawberry shortcake figure I purchased at a local party store. Finally, it was cake time. I ordered the cake from a friend using a picture I found. It was a three layered cake decorated with strawberry shapes, stripes and circles in the coordinating colors. I had my friend add a big cookie shaped in the number one on top. In keeping with the theme the cake was strawberry with strawberry filling, everyone loved it. We served it with ice cream and everyone got a cookie shaped in either a strawberry or number one (which I also had made) with it. Unfortunately, my daughter fell asleep before she had opened her gifts so we passed out goodie bags and said goodbye. The goodie bags (I made 30 of them) were red plastic bags (from Oriental Trading) filled with candy including First Birthday and Birthday Party candy (from OT), Strawberry Shortcake box of crayons, mini notebooks and blow-horns (fall from PW). I printed and placed a sticker on each bag with the same Strawberry Shortcake picture as before and Thank you for coming to E's Berry First Birthday Party on it. I am working on sending out the thank you cards I printed off with the same logo.
