Superhero Dinner My 5 year old son is very much into Batman and all that he stands for.  I checked into hiring an entertainer but he was going to do juggling, magic tricks and kidding around. Have you ever seen a Batman cartoon?  Batman doesn't do that.    We invited four of my son's closest friends to dinner - spaghetti, and we had convinced my husband's cousin to wear a rented Batman costume and come to the dinner as well.   We prepped the cousin to answer some potential questions the boys may ask, such as "where's the batmobile?" - rehearsed response, "Robin dropped me off because he needed the car to fight crime."    Oh, the look on the boys' faces when he came in!  Such a magical moment for everyone!    The commercial grade costume was something else - all you could see was our cousin's eyes so there was no suspicion of who it was but Batman.  Cost of the costume $55 dollars - cheaper then an entertainer! Batman delivered a special birthday present (batmobile and Batman t-shirt)to my son while delivering token gifts (Batman figures) to his friends.   We wanted to keep some of Batman's mystic alive so he stayed only for the entree of the dinner and was summoned away by the Batlight (foglight in the backyard with a Batman emblem made from transparency paper and black marker over the lightbulb).   This step has to be carefully choreographed to bring the boys to the backyard to observe the light and have Batman depart in the front - leaving no trail of where he went. In our case, he whisked away to our neighbors to change.  We turned off the light when the boys arrived to the backyard. Oh, they were all spell bound!
