My son, like a lot of little boys, loves superheroes and his birthday falls close to Halloween, in November.
I chose to have a Superhero Birthday Party Theme for his 5th birthday. I made up my own invitations with pictures of different logos for different superheroes. My son was going to come as Spiderman (his Halloween costume from the previous year). I also purchased the Marvel Comics stamps to attach to the invitations to send them out. I decided to have the party at our church's family life center - indoor basketball court with a kitchen. For the cake, I made a character cake with the Wilton Spiderman mold and an additional square cake with icing spiderwebs and plastic spiders attached (again, left over from Halloween). When the kids arrived at the party, they received their superhero names that I got off humorscope.com. For entertainment, I did hire a magician. His performance was about 30-45 minutes. He was first. Then the kids had to complete a superhero obstacle course that my husband made up. The kids first had to throw a glowstick into a bucket, then run across a very low table carrying Spiderman or Superman. They then ran towards a Wolverine figure and had to jump over a balloon snake. We had some pop up tunnels as did my sister-in-law and mother-in-law and we used all of them in the obstacle course. The kids had to run a circle around a Superman boogie board and cross the 'finish line' that was a chair and some streamers for each child to run through. When each child finished the course, they received a sticker that read 'Superhero Obstacle Course' Successfully Completed 11/11/2007. My husband also set up the Superhero 'bowling' with our spiderman car that could bowl over some of the other superheroes. After the kids went through the obstacle course a few times (they really loved it), I had a table set up for them to decorate masks. I had glitter glue, feathers, foam stickers, etc. The girls especially liked this craft and made more than one mask. Cake and ice cream were next and then my son opened his presents. For the goodies, the kids got to keep their masks, a 'kryptonite' stick and some superhero candy sticks, sucker, stickers and also a little creature (frog, tick or snake) in a bag. All of the kids had a great time and just enjoyed running around the obstacle course and playing together. The magician was a hit as well. I really get a lot off of this website and wanted to share my version of this party.
