Superhero Party 4 yr - Diego Bingo

December 2007

Tracy in Johnstown, OH USA

I was browsing on your website for ideas for my 4 year. His birthday is 20 December, so we were challenged to keep activities inside due to weather. We also maintained the comforts/warmth of Christmas too. He likes Superheroes - in particular Spiderman. I sent invitations from the party store with Spiderman and added an insert with the theme of the party and agenda. Santa was going to appear - as the hero for Christmas. Since this was a family event, my son had eight of cousins attend, ranging from 11 y/o on down. Guest arrived with signs of Junior Justice League Training School" and a picture of a villain called the "Candy Man" with a description to warm people up to the idea. My brother veggies fruit chips with dip drinks Christmas cookies and candy. Cake had Justice League decorations. I ordered the meat/cheese tray and cake at Krogers. One trip. Food was consumed by all age groups. We broke the kids down in three groups. We had three stations to hone their skills to be superheroes. Station One pertained to sensing skills - find the Kryponite. Station Two pertained to listening skills - Diego Bingo. Station Three pertained to slinging the web (or Silly String). Each station had a scenario. Kids received stickers completion. After all the stations were done kids participated in graduation. I mentioned again about the villian the "Candy Man". My brother was donned in cape moustache and a mask. Wanted signs were posted all over the house with a cropped face of him with a clipart picture of villain with a cape. We reviewed that the kids must find the villain. I told them to grab their masks (given out at graduation) and find him. They were successful as they ran around the house and the kids they saved the day. Shortly thereafter Santa Claus (my brother-in-law) arrived as the hero at Christmas. All kids sat on his lap; they rec'd a candy cane. Adults were welcomed to Santa's lap too. After that event we dug into cake ice cream and presents. We had a decoration table for the kids to color and decorate their masks. The older cousins helped the younger ones. Earlier in the week I made several batches of Christmas cookies. The adults left with a care package of Christmas Cookies. We completed the event in roughly 90 minutes. Being the host I had to be the traffic cop to keep things going - as we have quite a range of ages for the kids. For the menu it's best to have everything laid out for the guests like already made coffee creamer ice for the drinks and be aware of sensitivities to diets - like hosting to diabetic family members. My husband and I were busy keeping the flow with the party. Again I borrowed a couple ideas from previous submissions but I added a Christmas flair too. Christmas music was in the background. House was decorated and the adult guests appeared to be satisfied. It's best to appoint someone to take pictures too. It was fun with 20+ guests. "
