Surprise Princess Party.
When my daughter was turning 5 she was very into pretty clothes and dressing up. We sent out invitations indicating it was a surprise party. Relatives were at the house to greet the guests and get the last minute decorations up. Upon returning from our appointment my dd thought only grandma and grandpa would be in the house to have cake with us. As she opened the door there was a sign which read "Welcome to -------'s Castle" The doorway was covered with birthday paper. As she broke through the paper everyone shouted "Happy Birthday!" Her guests then went to a variety of stations. One station was hair dressing. Each guest got to chose the pony tail holders &/or barrettes they wanted put in their hair by dd's aunt. (they got to keep their comb and hair fixings); Another station was the nail station. Our neighborhood babysitter painted their fingernails (and toe nails if desired). The guest got to keep the polish they chose. Another station was makeup. The guests got to chose the lipstick and eye shadow they wanted to wear. They also got a Barbie necklace (from party packs found at stores). Finally they had a dress up station where they could put on fancy dresses and shoes. All the children then came out and posed for pictures with my dd and a group picture. Copies of these pictures were then sent to the guests in their thank you notes. After that the dd opened presents and they enjoyed cake.
