Invitation: I made the invitations on my computer using a 1/4 fold format found in MS Publisher. The front of the invitation had a graphic downloaded from the Man vs Wild website that said, Bear Grylls can survive anything can you?".  I also downloaded pictures of Bear Grylls in action and pasted them on the inside left flap.  I typed "Test your survival skills at a Man vs. Wild party for Sam" and provided the date and party details. Decorations: I decorated in camo colors green and black for the streamers balloons table linens and dinnerware.  Activities/Games: I began the party by painting each child's face in camoflauge. The boys wanted green and black and the girls wanted purple and pink. We then talked about Bear Grylls' different adventures in remote places and certain skills he had to survive.  We told the kids that they needed to "survive" different stations to earn their backpack (party favor). Our first station was a rope climb.  My husband simply tied knots in climbing rope he had from work and tied it to a tree in our backyard. Whoever was able to make it to the top won a small prize (candy).  The next station was a zip line.  A zip line is a steel cable strung between two trees that has a handle trolley attached to it so the child can zip across the cable. The kids LOVED this!!! We spent lots of time at that survival skill!  The next station was archery. I had youth target arrows and bows that each child could aim at bales of hay that I had placed animal pictures on (deer bear etc).  The arrows were a smooth steel tip used for target practic - NOT real hunting arrows. A candy prize was given to each child that hit their mark.  Our last game/activity was a pinata in the shape of a shark.  I think it would have been great to have an alligator pinata but I couldn't find one at our local stores. Party Snacks/Lunch:  I laid out trail mix pretzels and chips in aluminum pie pans to simulate a metal camping dish similar to the ones Bear Grylls uses in the show.  We had long sticks ready for the children to cook hot dogs over a fire. My original idea was to have them collect sticks and big stones to build a fire ring but due to a Red Flag Fire warning in our county we were not able to do that in our yard so we improvised and instead used our grill. The kids really liked being able to cook their own food and we all pretended that the hot dogs were actually a snake/lizard that they had "caught in the wild". The children ate their food out of the aluminum pie pans which they thought was much better than a paper plate.  Cake:  I made a cake in the shape of a snake - an idea I found on FamilyFun.com. I used Red Velvet cake mix to simulate blood and the boys just went nuts over that! I was able to make a snake shape using a bundt pan and then cutting the cake in 4 pieces to connect them in a slithery shape. Favors:  I made backpacks out of a brown paper grocery bag.  I made the straps by folding extra bags into 2.5" strips and then stapled them to the bag. I filled each bag with "fun imaginary survival stuff" - magnifying glass to identify the bugs they can eat silly string to run a line into a cave plastic bugs/spiders/frogs that they could find in the wild aluminum pie pans to eat their meals reflective  cover that came with the pie pans so they could signal for help bug net to catch fish in the river and a bubbles container in the shape of a water bottle that the could use to boil water in.  All the kids loved the imaginary ways to use these things and one child even came up with the idea to use the magnifying glass to start a fire but I didn't want to encourage that idea because of the children's age (7). My son and his friends really enjoyed their outdoor survival adventure and I received lots of compliments from the parents.  We all had a great time!"
