We had a teen survivor birthday party this year for our 13 and 15 year olds girls. Using brown kraft paper, banners and flags were fashioned to display tribe names. Once guests arrived, they
popped balloons to see which tribe they would be on. Next, they were given a red or blue bandana (depending upon which team they were on). Each girl displayed their bandana in their own unique
way (wearing it on head, arm, leg, wrist, neck, ect.) Then they painted their faces with homemade paint (cold cream, cornstarch and water with food coloring).
The girls headed outside to build a shelter with various objects placed ahead of time in a large garbage bag(blanket, tarp, clothes pins,rope,ect.). They also fought for the large limbs scattered in the back yard to help support the shelters. They each had a cooler with Mountian Dew and Doritos for snacking in between games. Next, we played games such as spear throwing (a stick thrown at a cardboard target), stumps (standing on a crooked platform 6"x12" and pulling on a rope like 2 man tug of war), and worms away (wearing large rubber gloves, they had to fish out 1 spaghetti noodle from a bucket and run to the bottle to deposit the worm and return to hand off the gloves to next in line). Of course the popular suprise food challenge was necessary (racing opponet to eat the nasty food first such as jungle grass(green tinted coconut)-dirt(dirt dessert)-brains(cooked spaghetti noodle)-monkey's eye(peeled grape with a mini m&m attached)-worms and sharks(gummy kind)-ect..) Then there was a sling-shot game knocking down the opposing teams empty soda cans (each labeled with a team member's name) with a homemade sling shot made from a "Y" branch and a rubber band followed by fishing for sharks eggs(using a kiddie pool, easter eggs were added with ice cubes and once blindfolded they sat down and using feet found and captured their egg),and melting an icecube with a large bug frozen inside using only hands. They played the popular "wrap the ..." we called it catipellar, 2 rolls of toliet paper, then the butterfly broke free, and it was time for food. The pizza was delivered and it was followed by cake and a cup of dirt dessert. Each guest had a trick candle in their piece of cake(everyone gets to blow out a candle along with the birthday girl!) Gift opening was next and some guest had to leave early. After a short break of talking and giggling, we played a few traditional birthday games such as fishing for the bubble gum in a pile of "Reddi Whip" without hands(first to blow a good size bubble wins). They cleaned up their faces, and we got down on the floor and moved one survival item from the pile in the center to their end of the room using noses only(items would be battery, flashlight, plastic knife,string,ect.). Another game was picking up the most balloons in 1 minute. 19 was the highest anyone collected by the end of the minute(they even stuck to the long strawberry blond hair.Is that fair? We thought so!) They got to go home tired and they kept their bandanas and a keychain with a survivor picture of themselves taken during the party. My daughter fashioned necklaces and braclets personally for each guest. We are pleased with the results of our survivor party, and are planning next years bithday party. We got many of our ideas from the internet, and this sight was a huge help. I hope some of our ideas can help spark the beginning of a wonderful party for someone else.
