I hosted a Survivor-themed party for my 12-year old daughter and her friends for "surviving" their first year of Jr. High. This party would also be a great birthday party for an
11-14 year old girl. I got the idea on this website and fine-tuned it to meet our needs. For invitations,I bought specialty paper with bamboo reeds and leaves on it. OUTWIT - OUTLAST-
OUTPLAY, It's a Survivor Party! I made up a little poem that said that we're playing games and spending some time in the pool. The invitations said that they could bring 2 Luxury items: a
bathing suit and a towel. At the entrance to our home, I lit 4-6 tiki torches. In the backyard, I put up bamboo reeds against the wall, and decorated it with some rubber snakes,
spiders, and other critters I purchased at the local Dollar Tree. For the snack table, I had 2 grass skirts (my daughter is a hula dancer) that covered the table, and put a tiki god and some
small tiki torches on top of the table (I did not light them for fear of a fire). There were a total of 8 girls that attended the party. Once they cooled off in the pool, I randomly picked
the 2 tribes. I then handed out 2 different colored T-shirts that I purchased for 5 for $10. They then went to separate areas and had to design t-shirts for their tribe only using scissors
and their hands. They cut, ripped, slit and tied their shirts and wore them all day (think Destiny's Child in their Survivor video). They also had to think up names for their tribe. The girls
had a great time designing their shirts! Next, we played our first game. One girl from each team was on one side of the pool sitting down on a chair. The other three girls from each team were
on the other side of the pool. I handed out balloons to the three girls and had them blow up their balloon to any size. The first girls had to swim across the pool with their balloons and pop
the balloon by sitting on their teammates'laps. No hands allowed! When it popped, the second girl swam across with her balloon and had to pop the balloon by hugging her teammate. When it
popped, the last girl swam across with her balloon and had to pop the balloon by using their backs. The first team to pop all the balloons earned a point. By this time, the girls were having
a really fun time! We served them pizza for lunch. Immediately after lunch, we played a game where the girls had to think. I packed a backpack full of 20 items that a girl their age would
want if they were stranded on a deserted island. Each team would have to write down 20 items they thought were in the backpack. Some of the items that I packed were: a CD player, CD,
magazine, shampoo, conditioner, nail file, sunscreen, etc. The team to guess the most items got a point. The third game we played was to eat gross food. Each teammember had to eat 1 item from
a choice of 4. Whichever team ate all of the items first earned a point. The 4 gross items I had were: 10 Red Ants (hot cinnamon gummy ants), Rat droppings (15 Raisinettes), Worms in Dirt
(chocolate pudding, crushed up Oreos and gummy worms), and a "native" food which was sweet sticky rice wrapped up in a banana leaf (good, but foreign to them). We then played
tug-of-war: whichever team could pull the other into the pool won a point. And for the last game, we had a relay race in the pool where the girls had to use pool toys and their swimming speed
to win! The second place team got tropical flavored lip balm as a prize, and the first place team received tropcial smelling lotion. Great fun was had by all! We pulled off a fun party that
was fairly inexpensive (less than $120 for everything). The parents and the girls were impressed with the theme and asked how I thought it up! I hope this idea helps! I'm already planning my
daughter's 13th birthday party with the help of this website! Thanks again!
