This is the perfect sweet sixteen idea, especially for me.
I'm one of the younger teens in my school, meaning all my best friends already have their license and a car. For my party, the theme was from the show, The Amazing Race." I absolutely love that show. It worked out pretty well because my dad knows people who own restaurants all across our town. But even if you don't know anybody you could certainly ask an owner of a restaurant to hand out clues most will say yes as long as you guarantee it'll only take about a half hour. If not have a friend or a family member go to the place and sit there with the clues. Anyways this works best if you are inviting a large group of people atleast ten. That way when you split them off into groups there are five competing teams. Make sure you invite an even amount of people so there isn't an extra person and make sure they RSVP. but sometimes you can control a sickness or something so make sure you have a back-up. Like an older brother or sister neighbor or another friend. It's also important to invite people who can drive for this. Atleast half of the people need to be driving! Plus you don't want to pair up a team of best friends if neither of them drive. If you want to be a part of the race you're going to have to rely on your parents to set it up for you or other family members. It's not a good idea for your friends to throw it because then they can't participate! So heres what you do. Make sure the people throwing the party understands exactly what you want to do. Plan on how far you want to go in advance. That way the people racing know that it's not gonna be out of town or something. Type up the clues just in case someone can't read another persons handwriting and then stick them in envelopes. Get a ribbon or peice of material to hang at every "stop" in the race. Clues can be things like in the begining you can say "drive down to this [name a famous monument] and take a picture of it and develop it.(everyone of my friends have their own digital camera it takes less than five minutes to run it over to the local drug store and they print them out right away. and only the ones you want!) Then run the picture down to a local coffee shop and hand it to [whoever is waiting there for it] to get your next clue." Then the next one could be something like a clue and a picture are in the envelope and the picture is of a sign but it's either blurry so it's hard to make-out or it's just a part of it. Or its a picture of a window display or something. And the clue can read "go down to the mall (or shopping center) and find the store in the picture" and it could have another picture inside of something they have to buy (make it something cheap a dollar or less.). But again this picture is only part of the whole image so it may take a while to find. In another one it could have a riddle they need to solve in order to find the location of the next clue. One idea we had was in our mall we have a hallmark. So we found a card that had a poem inside and we wrote the poem on the clue. The clue said "In Halmark is where you'll find your next clue" and attached to the clue was a poem and you had to go look inside ALL the cards to find it. Once we found it we had to run the card up to the counter where my dads friend worked and he handed us our next clue. It was ton's of fun! In the end the winner got a season passes (my parents had to pay for that!) to the local amusement park. It was pretty awesome. Another thing we did and this is only an idea because not many people have video cameras but what we did was I had enough video cameras (we have two and I managed to get 6 more from friends). When we seperated the teams we gave them video cameras and they had to record everything they were doing. Another idea i had but didn't use was to invite the people and split them into groups of 3 and then rotate who had to record. Like the first clue Stacy (just making up random names here!) had to record until they got to the second clue and she wasn't allowed to give any hints or say anything she was just the camera man. And then when they got to the second clue it would read "Now Susan is the camera man. and they had to switch before opening the rest of the clue. Then the other two girls (or guys or both if it was coed) read the clue and finished the task without any insight from the camera man. That way everyone got to play and it was all recorded. To end the night everyone came back to my house we pigged out on pizza and snacks and watched every one of the videos! It was interesting because some people misunderstood some of the clues and went to the wrong place or they did something embarressing on camera or something funny. "
