For my Sweet 16, I wanted to do something really fun and something where I could invite a lot of my friends. Also, it had to be low budget, around $450. First I looked on the internet for
party ideas and theme ideas. I finally decided on a Hollywood theme party with the colors red, black, and white as the main decorating colors. I made a guest list and ended up inviting about
45 people. About 30 people ended up coming. For the invitations, I decided to make them myself and went to Office Max and found paper and envelopes for around $12 for 50 invites. I just
printed up the invitations on my computer. At the top they said, You're invited to Danielle's Sweet 16 Hollywood Party¯ and it had the date (on a Saturday night), time (from 6 to 12 pm), and
location. I told the guests to dress semiformal (like homecoming) in the theme colors. At the top of the invitations I put two hole punches and tied a bow with red ribbon. I had the party at
my house because it was the easiest place to have it. We decorated the house with white Christmas lights and white tulle. Also we had a red carpet made of red felt coming up the front door
with red Christmas lights along each side. We cut letters out of foam board in the same style as the HOLLYWOOD sign. We put these up on the wall with lights behind it, and it looked really
great. We also rented a helium tank from Party City and blew up red balloons to put everywhere. Some were in bunches, and others we let float to the ceiling. The floating ones had stars (cut
out of poster board and covered with silver glitter) tied to the ends of the balloons, so when we were dancing it looked like we had stars around our heads. On the tables we had white
tablecloths, red roses in vases, white and black confetti in the shape of top hats and bow ties, and red star confetti. We had big red paper plates and smaller black paper plates, as well as
black forks, and clear plastic cups. I didn't want to have a specific schedule that people would have to adhere to, but we had some different games and activities set up around the house. In
the dining room, there was a Sweet 16 scrapbook that people could write me a message and that I could put pictures from the party in later. We also had a photo booth¯ with a digital camera.
Also, we had a bunch of disposable cameras around the house for people to take pics themselves. In the living room, we had cleared back all the furniture and it was the dance area. Instead of
having an expensive DJ, I just borrowed my friend's speakers and plugged my iPod into them. Upstairs in the loft, we had our Wii set up and I had my friend bring Guitar Hero. We also had a
second tv in the loft so people could watch the football game. In the family room, we had some board games to play. Scene It is a great game for Hollywood parties since it's movie themed.
Also, Apples to Apples is a great party game. In the kitchen, we had a lot of food set out. It was mostly appetizer-type stuff, such as sushi, meatballs, cheese platters, veggie platters,
fruit salad, etc. Mainly frozen appetizers we picked up from Costco or made. Instead of doing a cake, we made a bunch of cupcakes. My aunt is a pastry chef, so she decorated them and made
them. For the goody bags, I put microwave popcorn bags and a candy bar in a star-covered goody bag. For the thank you notes, I found red, white, and black designed cards at Michael's in the
$1 section, so for 50 thank you notes it only cost $5. I also included a CD with a slide show of all the pictures from the party going to music. This party was a huge success, everybody loved
the decorations, and everyone told me they had a great time.
