For my daughter's fifth birthday we gave her a "Royal Tea Party" The invitations were photo greeting cards I made using Walmart's photo center online. I had dressed her up in a fancy gown and tiara holding a lace umbrella in our backyard. I took pictures with our digital camera then selected the best pose to upload for the invitation. The invitation read "Your Invited to Princess Kaurie's Royal tea party birthday celebration" I printed the details on plain paper then attached it to the backs of the cards. A few weeks in advance I built a castle out of large TV cardboard boxes to use as our backdrop for photos and also for when my daughter opened her gifts.  I didn't want to have a typical grey stone castle, so I designed it in the style of a morrocan castle with rounded roof tops that came to a peak(Very Alladin), and painted it purple, pink and gold with 8-point star designs. I fashioned a throne out of our dining room chair by cutting out a large piece of cardboard in a diamond shape and attaching rinestones to it, which I attached to the chair to give it a Royal Throne look.  I took Sari fabric and used it to cover the seat of the chair.  It was perfect because it had the gold purple and pink and added to the morrocan flair. I also used some of the same fabric to cover the gift table. Our kitchen is very large and we don't have a separate formal dining room, so I used our table as a buffet against one of the walls, and set up three card tables for tea which I borrowed from friends.  I covered the tables with plastic gold tablecloths then put pink satin fabric on top. I used real china tea cups saucers and plates which I found at Marshalls in the homegoods section. They were child-size and really reasonably priced. I also used my flatware . I had seating for 12 girls(4 per table)  I bought pink and purple silk roses from the dollar store to use as centerpieces. I draped purple tulle swags from the ceiling using fishing line and thumbtacks and had pink purple and gold balloons with streamers hanging from the ceiling.  It was beautiful. At each place setting I had a tiara for the girls as well as a gold sache with name tag attached filled with beaded necklaces, rings, princesss stickers, and chocolate gold coins. For the food I made PB& J sandwiches Turkey and lettuce sandwiches cut into flower shapes and arranged them on a silver platter. I also had devilled eggs in a crystal egg dish I borrowed, and cookies on platters. I made fruit kabobs using watermelon, strawberries and red seedless grapes on skewers which I arranged in empty baby formula cans I filled with foam and covered in pink metallic gift wrap.  For some of the kabobs I added marshmellows.  The kids loved these. I also made a Teapot cake using a recipe I found online. This wasn't easy but it came out very well. For games we played Hot Teapot, musical chairs, and had a treasure hunt. All in all it was a beautiful day and my daughter and her friends had a ball.  This site was very useful in helping me prepare.
