For my daughters 7th birthday, I decided to have a Fairy Tale Tea Party.
To start with I prepared invitation on my home computer which read: Here ye, here ye, All Princes and Princesses of the land are invited to a special tea party in honor of Princess Gabriella's 7th birthday. For the Fairy Princesses, I made cone hats out of pink and light blue felt. I stitched sequined braid around the base and coordinating ribbon for ties. The tops of the hats were left open to string bridal netting and ribbons through. I made play clothes for the girls with camisole undershirts and inexpensive fabric. I gathered the skirts and attached them to the camisoles. Using metallic braid and sequins, I embellished the waists of the dressed. For the Princes, I used gray broadcloth and cut a knight looking pinafore-type coverlet. Their swords and shields were made of poster board covered with aluminum foil. Using an old flat sheet, I painted a castle complete with a drawbridge. I hung it on the swing-set in the backyard for a party game. On the day of the party, I wrote in chalk on the walkway leading to my front door "Once Upon A Time". Just outside of the front door, I continued the theme and wrote on my daughters chalkboard "In a land far away there was a magical place for fun, food, and frolic". The girls used fabric paints and sponge stamps to embellish their princess hats. I made sugar cookies on sticks and cup cakes the day before and the kids frosted and decorated them in preparation of the tea party. When the food preparation was done, the girls all got dressed up in their princess dresses, hats complete with silver enchanted fairy wands. Pictures were taken in front of the castle for each to keep. My daughter put a dragon costume she had from a past Halloween and tried to capture the fairy princesses and take them to her dragon cave. The princes then fought the dragon and saved the princesses. Afterward, my daughter changed into her princesses clothes and knighted the princes for their bravery in saving the princesses from the dragon. When they all calmed down and the kids sat down to their tea party and enjoyed the cookies, cupcakes and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut with cookie cutters. I served peach and strawberry kiwi herb tea from my silver tea service to make the day special. All of the kids got to take their costumes and hats home. It was a magical day for one and all.
