Teddy Bear Picnic (Ages 3 and up) I sent out handmade invitations made from a bear die-cut and rolled like a scroll and tied with red and white checked ribbon. I invited all children to
bring their fav. teddy. Preparing for the party, I painted 8 large trees (brown and green paint) and made a forest like environment in our family room. Teddy bears were placed all over
the room and under the trees.
On the floor (after all the furniture was moved out of the room) I placed a red and white checked table cloth on the ground to be used as a sitting area for the actual picnic. I placed a large picnic basket next to the blanket - also lined with red and white checked table cloth (bought at walmart for a couple dollars). INside the basket I had fruit kebabs (pineapple, apples, melons), carrots and ranch, and sandwiches shaped like paw prints (This takes 1 & 1/2 refrigerated biscuits for each child. Pat the first biscuit out, take the 1/2 biscuit and divide into three balls. add to first biscuit, to make the claws) - very cute. Peanut butter and jelly and chicken salad work well with the biscuits. We had Lemonade to drink. All of this was in the picnic basket ready to go. The first station - On my dining room table I had set up an art project - paper plates, and brown and light brown paper (cut out in circles) to make teddy bear plates used for the picnic. I also had black pom, poms for eyes and nose. The paper plate was used for the tummy of the bear, the large brown circle for the head and four dark brown and smaller light brown circles for the paws. I had made a sample for the kids to follow. Once the kids were done, they were ready to eat. WHile kids were eating, I read "teddy bear picnic" to them. A fun book that all the kids loved. Then we sang a teddy bear song - Bear Song Sung to: "Row, row, row your boat" Hug, hug, hug your bear Squeeze him very tight Hold him high Help him fly Then hug with all your might. Second Station- I also had each child sit under a tree with their teddy and took a picture with my poloroid camera - to be take home with goodie bag (see below) Third Station - In my kitchen I set up a large kid table adjusted for accomodate little ones and rented child size chairs. I had made sugar cookies - cut out like bears and the kids enjoyed a cookie decorating project after lunch. I set up different colored frostings - brown, blue (eyes) and pink - my daughters fav. color) and raisins for eyes and nose, red licorice for mouth. Fourth Station- When we finished with our cookies, we played a game - teddy bear freeze out on our deck when the music stops, you and teddy freeze and stop dancing! It is non-competitive for little ones and they loved dancing with their teddys. The children had so much fun and I sent them all home with a fun goody bag filled with teddy bear gorp - (teddy grahams, marshmallows, chocolate chips, and raisins and gummy bears) wrapped in cellophane and tied with a red and white checked ribbon, the poloroid picture was hole punched and tied onto the gorp and a teddy bear coloring book I bought from a discount store. It was an unforgettable party and the kids have been talking about it for weeks now.
