Teddy Bear Picnic- 3years old For my daughter Haley's third birthday we had a Teddy Bear Picnic in our backyard.
To show everyone where to go, we attached a piece of poster board to a For Sale sign saying "Teddy Bear Picnic This Way!" We hung red and white balloons to the sign to make sure everyone saw it. There were planters with pansies on either side just to add to the outdoorsy feel. We gathered up all the teddy bears in the house and put them in the shade on a picnic blanket. We arranged them around the blanket with a set of plastic Subway food. On the invitations we asked each guest to bring their favorite bear. A cute idea would be to say BYOB-bring your own bear! When the guests arrived we invited them to let their bear join the picnic and then they had the option of getting a paw print painted on their face. We did this with brown eyeliner from Avon. During the party we played a Teddy Bear CD that we found at the Dollar Tree for $1. The first song on the CD was Teddy Bear Picnic! We saved lots of money on decor by using traditional picnic plates and napkins in red and white. The tablecloths were also very affordable, we got them at Kroger for about $3. They were red and white gingham. We ordered a party sub at Subway for the adults. The kids munched on PB&J sandwiches cut out like Teddy Bears, chips and Juicy Juice Boxes. They sat picnic style on blankets in a shady part of the yard. We scattered chairs around the blankets for the parents to sit and keep an eye on the kids since it was a pretty young group. We had a couple of games that we played. First, we spread a blanket on the patio and invited everyone to bring their bear to the blanket. We then spread the kids around the blanket and and bounced the bears around like you would on a parachute. It was definitely the hit of the party. Everyone wanted to keep playing it over and over! The idea was that if your bear stayed on the longest you were the winner but we played so many times each child probably won at least once. Then we played Pin the Heart on the Bear, which is a take on Pin the tail on the donkey. They loved this too and we didn't even blindfold them because most of them were so small. Cake time was next. I got an ice cream cake for the adults, and the kids had cupcakes decorated with Teddy Bear Sprinkles and ice cream cups. Another idea for cupcakes is decorate the top with Paw Prints, consisting of a miniture Peppermint Patty with 3 Junior Mints around the top of it to look like a Paw Print. We didn't do this because it was so hot and the Junior Mints melted in the car on the way home so we were afraid to use any outside. I would not recommend doing it unless it's an indoor party. The teddy bear sprinkles were equally adorable and found at a local cake decorating supply store. We also used a cupcake stand bought for 1/2 price at Hobby Lobby for an added touch. After cake and presents we rewarded each guest with "certificates" that I printed off the computer for each bear. Examples are biggest bear, furriest bear, happiest bear, etc. They loved getting the awards! Then we passed out goodie bags that had individual bags of Teddy Grahams, gummy bears, and assorted little goodies found mostly at the dollar store. The goodie bags themselves were just brown paper lunch sacks with teddy bear stickers on them. On a personal note, I have to say that this party was a huge success thanks to ideas I found on this site, and trying to add personal touches to make it our own. There is something special about having the party at home and keeping the commercial craziness out of it that makes it all worthwhile.
