I had a polar bear party for my 6 yr old. I bought a lot of wooden bear shapes from Michaels craft store. When the kids arrived, I had them paint the bears white, glue on google
eyes and put magnets on the back. This kept them busy until everyone arrived. I found some seal figurines, which I froze in an icecube tray. I then placed the seal icecubes in a
tub of water which the kids had to scoop them out with their hands. I let the older kids use a plastic knife to dig the seals out but you could have them just melt the ice cube with their
hands. The kids thought this was really fun and I ran out of ice cubes before they were tired of melting the cubes.
The next game I had the kids play was jump the icefloes. I explained that jumping ice floes was how polar bears traveled. I cut irregular shapes out of poster board and placed them on floor. It basically was musical chairs without the chairs. I played music and the kids jumped from icefloe to icefloe. The last one received a prize. I also had them play hot potatoe with a stuffed polar bear. For food I let the kids make "polar pizzas". I took english muffins and had cheese, sauce, pepperoni, and mushrooms for them to choose from. The kids made their own pizzas and I microwaved them until the cheese melted. Big hit with the kids! I also had hotdogs, chips, and baked beans because that was the birthday boy's favorite food. I had a hot chocolate bar for the kids also. They could choose whatever they wanted to go in their hot chocolate. I had crushed candy cane, mini chocolate chips, marshmallows, candy sprinkles, and the best part was that they could keep their mugs! I made the cake as a polar landscape with polar bears standing on icefloes and seals popping out of the water. The kids loved the party and they said they learned a lot about polar bears. My Son had told the guests that instead of presents, he wanted money to feed the polar bears. The Toledo Zoo has a program that lets you choose where you would like your contribution to be used, To be a ZooPal for the polar bears was $500 dollars, so my son sent in his money from his birthday to help feed the polar bears. That was my favorite part of the whole party, my son refusing presents so he could feed the polar bears. The kids ranged from 1 to 13 and all of them and the adults had a good time.
