For my daughters 3rd birthday we had a
"Teddy Bear's Picnic in the Enchanted Birthday Party Forest". I made simple invitations on the computer using the "curtz" font, to give it a whimsical feel, and added small images of a Teddy bear, and some butterflies and bees buzzing around. (Simple and effective printed on white card stock). Early on the morning of the party my husband and I blew up about 50 or so green balloons with a helium tank we rented from the party store. We then attached various paper leaves (I had printed up on the computer) on different lengths of green ribbon to each balloon. It was an incredible effect - It was as though we were under an umbrella of trees- deep in the forest! For the "picnic" I made each child their very own basket out of the green plastic container strawberries are sold in. For each one I cut out a purple and white gingham place mat (from the dollar store) to fit on the bottom, then added ribbon handles to each side. Each little basket included a little cheese sandwich, a mini drinking box, and a little cup of Teddy Gram cookies. The 7 children sat still in the circle and ate everything up. I let them play for a bit with all the teddy's and a "pop" up castle I had in the room. Then we sang Happy Birthday with a cut out butterfly cake I outlined with smarties to give it's wings their color. Finally we let down the butterfly Piņata to let them all have a whack! Their parting gift was the small toys and stickers collected from the Piņata in their "picnic baskets" plus a homemade "flower" cookie with a note of thanks attached. Fun was had by all!
