For my daughters 3rd birthday party we had a teddy bear picnic pool party. Her birthday is in late July and the heat is almost unbearable in Texas so any outdoor parties usually have to include water activities to beat the heat so I always work that into my theme. Here's what I did. Invitations were teddy bear shapes cut from a large scrapbook stencil. Then I cut out swim trunks for the boys and a bathing suit for the girls out of floral/tropical scrapbook paper. Large google eyes were glued on and a nose and mouth were drawn on with a sharpie. Details of the party were added to the back side. Ask the kids to bring their favorite teddy bear. We had the teddy bears sit at their own kiddie table when the guests arrived. When the children arrived we had craft time. I had precut out two more of the large teddy bear shapes out of heavy constuction paper (or cardstock)for each kid then gave them lots of choices to pick out swimsuits (once again cut out of patterned scrapbook paper in bright tropical prints, etc..) for their bears. A large tongue depressor was glued in between the two shapes to make a puppet. They also glued on the google eyes and an adult added the nose and mouth features for them. When they finished their teddy bear puppet we moved on to our next craft. I was also able to buy plain paper mache teddy bear shaped boxes at Walmart that I allowed the kids to paint. We let their creations dry during the party. Decorations were lots of balloons in bright colors. I had beach balls floating in the pool and around the yard.  Games and activities included digging for treasures in a large silver washtub-I had about 80 or more small toys and let the kids scoop several shovels full of sand then they sifted it through a colander to get the prizes. The kids played until the prizes were gone. We also made homemade bubbles and had giant bubble wands. The cake was made with a Wilton teddy bear pan that I decorated by adding a swim suit for the teddy bear. Favors were lots of pool and squirt toys that I had gotten on clearance at Walmart and Target at the end of summer of the previous year. I saved 75 percent or more. I had bubble toys, water guns, swim rings, water bomb pets. I also found teddy bear coloring books and colors to go along with the teddy bear part of our theme and of course teddy grahams and gummy bears. The kids loved the party and the families also had a great time.
