For my daughters 3rd birthday I sent out invitations on some post cards I found of teddy bears having a tea party. On the back I asked each girl to bring a tea-cup (purchased from second hand
shops,) and their favorite doll. I cleared my living room of furniture and put in place one long table that I borrowed from our church nursery.
I decorated the table with white linen and lace table cloths. From the ceiling I hung a floral wreath with bridal tuile suspended with fishing line to look like it was floating. Then I used pink and white balloons tied to the back of each chair. The table was decorated with real floral arrangements and pastel floral plates, with matching napkins, (for about a month I collected toilet paper rolls and wrapped them with white paper doilies, then I rolled the napkins around pink plastic utensils and secured them with a plastic daisy ring and slipped them into the rolls they looked so lovely and made a great extra prize for the girls)Before the party I made paper teapots out of card-stock for name~places and set them on the table. As the guest arrived my sons who were dressed like footmen (costumes I had made long ago) escorted the little ladies dressed in their sunday best to their seats. Each girl placed their teacups on the table in front of their seat. When all the guest arrived we had a tea-cup swap. (Like musical chairs we walked around the table while the music played, when the music stopped the cup in front of each girl was theirs to take home. The girls ranging in ages from 3 to 8 loved this) We had a white round cake for my daughter to blow candles on, decorated simply with flowers, and cupcakes made to look like little teacups, with pipe cleaner handles. For a craft we made may-day baskets out of card-stock and decorated with lace, beads and stickers, We then had our tea with scones and cucumber sandwiches cut out with cookie cutters in shapes of flowers and butterflies. Real tea, Rasberry lemonaide, sugar cookies in the shapes of teacups and teapots, and a fruit tray, with all my daughters favorites. Then we used the may-day baskets to hold the goodies they got from the Butterfly pinata. Because I want my daughter to love to give as well as receive we bought dollar store items for each child there, and as she opened her gifts from each girl they also were able to open a gift from her as well. Then the girls went down and played with their favorite dolls together for an hour. While the moms got to mingle and relax over their tea. Nobody wanted to leave when the party was finally over. People are still talking about her party, and the best thing is she's almost 4 and she still talks about her party. She can't wait until her next birthday! Neither can I!
