For our daughter's 4th birthday we invited few of her friends for a 'Teddy bear' party. The children were asked to bring along their favorite bear or stuffed toy. The invitation cards was a Teddy bear holding balloons, so to greet the guests, we placed a big Teddy on a chair outside our front door holding a bunch of balloons. Since the kids came in at different times we asked them to color pictures of Goldilocks and the 3 bears. They then cut the figures and pasted a lollipop stick behind to make a 'puppet' set. We gave them brown bags to store their puppets Next, we created a sit down area with rugs and throw pillows and spread the stuffed toys around. The kids sat down to watch an interactive play title "Edwin the bear bakes a cake". Our 9 year old son conceived the idea and designed the sets (cooking set with empty milk and egg cartons, sugar and flour, play mixer and baking pans). The kids enjoyed learning how to bake a bear shaped cake. They took turns mixing the make-belief batter. Our son closed sentence was "Now that you know the bare necessities of cake making, let's dance to the music of bear necessities". At this point we played the Disney song "Bear Necessities" from Jungle Book. Next we read the story of Goldilocks and the kids were asked to use their puppets to enact the story. Again we tried to make it interactive. Now it was time to go outside and break the bear shaped piņata. We provided the kids with Ziploc bags to store their with treats. While outdoors, we played bouncing the Teddy. Everyone was asked to put their teddies on a blanket. The kids held onto the blanket and tried to bounce off other teddies while keeping theirs in. The last one in was the winner. Back inside we played 'Pin the heart on the bear'. We had drawn a 2.5 foot bear on brown paper. The heart was in red and each child was called up in turn, given a heart shaped sticker with their name on it, blind folded and asked to place the heart. Most got it dead center - could they see through the blind fold?, we wondered. Everyone was declared a winner. By now the kids had worked up a good appetite and we served up bear shaped peanut-butter jelly sandwiches, Teddy Graham crackers, Pizza and other snacks. A big hit with the kids were the multi-colored gummi bears and pink lemonade. The cake was a round vanilla cake with white frosting. The top was covered with colored sprinkles and the sides had gummi bears and hearts stuck to it. A small toy bear sat on top amid the glowing pink candles. After our daughter cut the cake, we lit the candles for all the other kids who took turns to blow the candles one by one.  After cake we opened the presents. Next we played Disney's Following the Leader from Peter Pan and the kids followed Sara around the house in an impromptu 'Teddy Bear March". Now it was time for the "Bear Pageant". We made sure the categories covered all the stuffed animals and called out one unique thing so that all the bears received a prize. Next the kids sat in a circle and played 'Hot bear' passing the stuffed animal from person to person. When the music stopped the one with the bear was out.  For treat bags we packed miniature Teddy bear play sets for girls and Winnie the Pooh train sets for the boys. It was a beary beary fun party and many told us so.
