My son Uno turned one in November 1997 and since his favorite teddy bear was turning one too, I decided to give them a "joint" birthday celebration :)it was quite easy bcoz since he
was born, he had all these stuff with teddy bear designs ...(had it on his linens, wallpaper, crib, books, etc) to carry out the theme, I sent out homemade invitations scanned from his
teddy bear baby book. it had his picture on it and as a postscript note, it said "my dear ol' teddy's turning one, too so bring yours along and let him meet new teddy friends!!".
amazingly, almost everyone brought their teddy's. they came in different sizes, colors and kinds...which added to the whole party theme. it was held under a large white tent with red, blue and yellow party trimmings all over. I hired a clown, a magician and an ice cream man to delight the kids. all games carried the teddy bear theme. we had "pass dear teddy", "bring me, teddy", etc. we had teddy bear piņatas with teddy candies and chocolates inside. we also had one large balloon (hung on the center of the tent) which had a large teddy bear inside that belonged to my son...the one who burst it first got to bring home the teddy. the highlight of the party was choosing the "special prizes". a prize was handed to the kid with the largest teddy, smallest teddy, teddy with the youngest owner and teddy with the oldest owner. all kids got to bring home loot bags with activity sets and candies inside (all in teddy designs). parents on the other hand, didn't go home empty handed... I had small handpainted teddy bear ceramics with my sons name and birthdate engraved, to give out to all. his cake too, came in 3 layers...it looked like piled, colored boxes and on the topmost layer, a teddy bear was bursting out! the party hats were all homemade too... and had teddy bear designs. and by the way, my son and his teddy were dressed in the exact same clothes too! the kids indeed had fun. but most of all, my son had the best time of his life. he's turning five now and still cant get enough of his first bday party:)
