This is the theme for my son's first birthday party. I made the invitations on my computer by scanning in a picture from the book by the same title. The page had three bear's celebrating one bear's birthday and the cake had one candle on it. Perfect! For food we are having picnic food (grilled chicken, macaroni salad, chips, watermelon, fruit salad, veggie platter, etc.). I am making a bear cake that I found in a cookbook for kids' cakes.  I found a checked table cloth that looks like a traditional picnic blanket.  For decoration, I will set up some of my son's teddy bear's as if they are having a picnic, using a cupcake with candle as part of the scene. As favors, I will take a Polaroid of each guest with my son (probably with a teddy bear too)and attach a piece of paper in the shape of a teddy bear with party hat on. On the paper it will say "So & so's First Birthday" and the date.  You can also put these in plastic magnetic frames.  This is a great favor for adults and since it is a first bday party, most of the guests will be adults.  (I have also used this favor idea for bridal showers -- it's always a big hit!) That's all I've thought up so far.  There are probably lots of things you could do using the picnic and teddy bear theme (i.e., for older kids games could be traditional picnic games like potato sack races or egg on spoon relay, etc.) Have fun!
