Thomas the Tank Engine -- two years old. My son Benjamin was turning two and he loves all trains, especially Thomas.  I had so much fun putting together this party for him! To start with, I used the Thomas invitations available in stores. I filled them out in blue metallic ink to match Thomas, and sealed them with a train sticker.  We had the party in a regional park near our home.  The park has a petting farm, pony rides, and a carousel, so our entertainment was built right in. I arrived early to secure a good picnic site, and decorated our three tables with Thomas tablecloths and helium balloon bouquets, mostly bright-colored latex balloons, but also one Thomas mylar balloon per bouquet. In the middle of our grassy area I placed a pop-up play tent shaped like Thomas! The kids just loved that.  There was also a ride-on train toy and several large balls to play with.  Because the kids were all three and under, we didn't have any organized games. They played with the toys and at a craft table with homemade play-doh in red, blue and green (Thomas colors), bubbles, and crayons and Thomas coloring sheets I got online. I also put out some Thomas storybooks but the kids were having way too much fun coloring, petting the animals, and running around to look at them. We served brunch finger foods and cake on the commercial Thomas plates and napkins, with red plastic forks. We served bagels and cream cheese (the party was 10 am till noon), a veggie and fruit tray, potato chips, and cookies shaped like trains and decorated with food-color marker to look like Thomas, James and Percy.  I also made a train from loaf pans, which held goldfish and animal crackers. I used one of Ben's large Thomas toys for the engine, but that got turned into a toy by the kids almost immediately! We had a cake from a local bakery with a picture of Thomas on it that said "Choo choo! Ben is two!" Beverages were Coke, water, and juice Calistogas for the adults and disposable sippy cups with apple juice for the kids, all kept cold in two Thomas-blue galvanized buckets from Target.  I also had an "emergency kit" available with diapers, wipes, Purell, paper towels, sunscreen, and bandaids. For favors, I made train t-shirts. I took Hanes undershirts (about $7 for five at Target) and ironed on trains I cut from a printed cotton fabric.  I covered the edges with puffy paint and also used the paint to write the kids' names on the back.  These were easy, fun to make, and so cute!  I had to sneak them into the parents' diaper bags because my son really did not want to give them away!  I also sent each kid home with a bag full of leftover play-doh, crayons, coloring sheets, and cookies. We downloaded Thomas writing paper from DLTK crafts online for the thank-you notes. It was a simple party but I had a great time working through every detail!
