For my son's 4th birthday, we had a Thomas party.  He is a total freak for Thomas.  Because we were unable to have his party at our house because of construction, we had it in the basement of our church.  I ordered the Birthday express deluxe package which is awesome, and used those invites. For the menu, I made train shaped PB&J, egg salad, & bologna/cheese sandwiches, train shaped cookies with blue frosting, train shaped blue Jell-O jigglers. For the cake I went to a store and got a photo cake with my son dressed in the Thomas costume. Instead of a gallon ice cream, I went and got the individual ice cream cups at the store.  There was hardly a mess with those.   For the moms I made chicken salad, croissants and a tossed salad so they didn't have to eat the kid food.  For activities, I made a big face of Thomas for pin the nose on Thomas, and set up various tables in the basement. one table had crayons, markers and Thomas coloring sheets, another table had his Thomas train tracks set up, another table with a Thomas puzzle and a TV set up with a Thomas video in it.  I purchased a helium tank that is disposable to blow up all the balloons that we also got in the deluxe package. We had 13 kids at his party and they were all under the age of 5. They all had a ball, and all the activities were a hit.  I was worried that they would be bored being that it wasn't outside in my yard. But it was a huge success.  Because we have a big family, I actually had two parties. This one for his friends and the next day we had a grandparent party. (he has 8 grandparents, YIKES!) So I made invites on my computer.  On the outside of the card I scanned a picture of Thomas and put that on the front saying  "Your invited to Shining Time Station for a Celebration".  On the inside it says, "Catch a ride on a train to the island of sodor.  Come join Thomas and his friends for cake and ice cream to celebrate CJ's 4th birthday".  A friend made a small cake for me for that party with a train on top w/ railroad tracks and trees.  It was cute.  I didn't decorate much for the grandparent party because they are pretty much clueless as to who Thomas is, but they got the jist of it.  Well I hope you enjoyed my ideas.
