Pixies And Pirates Party 5yr

My daughter really wanted a Tinkerbell Party for her 5th birthday. When making her guest list, she had just as many boys as girls! We thought about it and decided to make it a Pixies and Pirates party instead. The invitations were store bought Tinkerbell invites, but they had room at the top so I wrote in my best Neverland" letttes "You are invited to Megan's Pixies & Pirates Party". Our home is very small so we used our church hall as the place for the party. DECORATIONS: We purchased some Tinkerbell party supplies for the table and streamers. We also got some treasure map plates and napkins for the Pirates. I wanted to give my daughter a special place to open gifts so I created a little "Pixie Garden" in one corner of the room. We had a pink mesh canopy in her room that I took down and brought to the church. The church also had a lot of fake house plants so I gathered them all up. I hung the canopy and decorated it with tissue paper flowers that I had made. I brought an area rug from home (so they didn't have to sit on the cold floor) and put it under the canopy. I placed the "plants" all around and stuck more issue paper flowers in them. FInally a few butterflies from the dollar store made the garden complete. ACTIVITIES: We started by having the girls decorate their own pixie wings. I pre-cut the wings from poster board. (Fold one sheet in half draw half the wing on one side and then cut both sides at once so when you open it - you have a pair of wings. Use a hole punch to punch four holes and use ribbon to tie them to the girls arms). I gave the girls glitter glue and markers and gemstone stickers to decorate their wings. Meanwhile the boys were decorating their own treasure chests. I purchased small boxes from a craft store (on sale for .75 each). gave the boys markers and gemstone stickers and they went to it. They all loved it. While the crafts were drying we played "Walk the Plank". We used a store bought pirate map game (similar to pin the tail on the donkey). I added "walking the plank" by bringing a long bench from home. With an adult on each side the kids were blindfolded walked the plank and then stuck their treasure chest on the map. After that we moved on to "Pixie Dust Tag". One child was it and froze the other childern in regular tag. Another child (The Pixie) came by with a bag of confetti (Pixe Dust) and sprinkled the fozen child to set them free. This game was a big hit. After that we stopped for snacks. The Pixie wings were dry so the girls put them on and I had bandanas and eye patches for the boys. Then we played a bean bag toss. I made targets from cardboard (a flower a mushroom two stars) and the kids aimed for them with bean bags. Then it was time for cake and gifts and the kids played a little after that before heading home. CAKE: Fortunately my husband is very artistic and loves to decorate cakes. He enjoyes making them 3d so this one was a Tinkerbell (sculpted in gum paste) standing on a flower (a bundt shape cake covered in fondant petals). The birthday girl loved it! FOOD: Food was simple party snacks. (So much time went into the decor activities and cake - we ran out of creativity for food!) The kids had a great time! They took home their wings and treasure chests along with goodie bags. Several parents told me what a great party it was. "
