Every year, my children and I plan their birthday party's at least 6 months in advance.  Last year, my soon to be 6 year old wanted a Tinkerbell Party, and I took it one step further and said that Tinkerbell looks like a Lightning Bug when she flys around so I incorporated a bug theme to her party. Her invitations told all the girls to wear their fairy outfits if they had one. For decorations, I hung a Tinkerbell Canopy from a tree that had white Christmas Lights in it and I had a blanket underneath it.  I also had huge butterfly's hanging from the tree.  This magical place is where she opened her presents. As all the girls arrived, I gave them a barrette that I had hot-glued a bug onto for them to wear in their hair. For crafts, All the kids got to decorate Fairy wings I had bought from Oriental Trading and make bug necklaces(I found these foam bugs that you could string onto a strand of yarn) I had another table that had little clear jars I had found and I put all different kinds of plastic bugs in each jar so they could look at. I also had bought a Butterfly house that you could grow your own real live butterfly's but the butterfly's did not come out of their chysallis's in time for her party. Did I mention that we had her party near dusk so the twinkling lights looked like fireflies (or little Tinkerbells) so of coarse we had a bonfire and the kids got to roast their own hotdogs (with the help of their parents) I also gave the kids when they came a plastic bug jar with their names on it and everyone began to look for fireflies or bugs to fill their jar. One tablecloth had bugs on it and I scattered plastic bugs around and I also had found candy chocolate bugs as well as sweettart bugs that were in dishes.  The cake table had a Tinkerbell tabletcloth.  After everyone was getting to go home, they got to take their necklaces, barrettes, and fiary wings as well as a Mason Jar with a handle that was turned into a Lighting Bug Jar.  It was already filled with blue bubble gum and then scattered in it were gummy lighting bugs. So the kids could eat the goodies and then have a keepsake after.  For the little ones, I gave them a stuffed animal bug along with book about bugs.
