Tinker Bell Party 3yr - Fairy Cookie Wands

Honorable Mention

January 2008

My daughter was very into Peter Pan and loved Tinker Bell however most of the kids coming to the party were boys so we had to figure out a way to have a fairy/pirate party that was fun for all ages.  For decorations we used the colors pink, purple, and white. We decorated the house with each of the different areas of Neverland.  The bathroom had a sign on it that said Mermaid Lagoon and was decorated with blue and green streamers, the back patio was Pirate's cove, the front door had a star on the left and one right on the door (second star to the right), and we had lots of balloons to make it look like a fairy land.  When the children arrived I had tutus, wings, and a wand for the girls, eye patches, black bandannas, and foam swords for the boys. Everything was purchased at the dollar store.  We then had pixie dust (body glitter) for the girls and tatoos for the boys. Although all of the girls wanted tatoos and boys wanted glitter too.  For food we had my daughter's favorite finger foods.  The kids and adults loved the fruit and dip trays, meat, cheese and crackers, and the veggie trays.  It was quick, easy, and inexpensive.  I made fairy juice with ice cream scoped into fruit punch and 7-up.  I added pop rocks right when everyone got there to make it really fizzy. I made fairy wands to snack on by making star shaped sugar cookies and sticking a pretzel rod into it. When the cookies finished baking and cooling I docorated the cookie with white, pink, or purple frosting and sprinkles. Once that set up I dipped the pretzel rods into white chocolate and sprinkled it as well.  These yummy treats were by far the favorite among the adults.  Tip: the pretzel rod needs to stuck all the way along the star rather than from the middle down otherwise when the cookies are done they are not as sturdy.  I also used extra dough to put over the rod to reinforce it.  One of my 3 year old's favorite things to do is decorate cup cakes so for our first activity I had baked cup cakes ahead of time and set out the different colored frosting on tables covered with plastic table cloths.  With the help of adults we frosted the cupcakes and each kid got to decorate their own cup cake with a large variety of toppings. I had sprinkles of every color, small candies in different shapes, M&M's, and mini chocolate chips.  The kids had frosting all over their fingers but they loved every minute of it.  Once we were finished with our masterpieces the kids sang Happy Birthday and dug in. After we wiped fingers and mouths off we them went to the back patio for the last activity. Each kid was given a party bag and one at a time was blind folded to walk to the plank into the back yard.  We just set a board up at the back door and the step was pretty short so the kids just stepped down with the help of an adult but they had no idea how far they were going and thought it was really fun.  Once out back there were four tubs of sand and lots of sand scoops, buckets, etc.  The kids were told that in the sand was buried treasure.  I had buried a ton of toy jewels, necklaces, rings, gold coins, and wrapped candy. The kids had so much fun digging in the sand and loved finding their treasure that they could take home.  There was so much buried that even after the kids had their bags filled and had gone home my kids went back out and were still finding things.  I was surprised at how long the stayed at it but the parents loved that there wasn't much help needed in this activity.  Once the kids were done looking for treasure we headed inside and we drew names to see which kid would go and get their gift for my daughter to open.  This kept the kids from all wanting to go first.  It was a very fun filled day and very inexpensive.  My daughter still dresses up in her fairy stuff from her party and is looking forward to next year.
