My son, Nicolas wanted a Buzz Lightyear party for his third birthday. Since it is a few years since the movie it wasn't easy to find things in stores (more online). We decided to expand
the theme to space and the Buzz colors green and purple. The invitations were store bought and addressed with space names (Space Ranger Mikey and his Commanders, Uncle Todd Skywalker).
On the morning of his birthday, Nicolas woke up to find a wall decoration of Buzz by his door and his floor covered in balloons. Under the balloons was his first present; a Buzz
Lightyear t-shirt that talks! (from Target) Guests were greeted at the front door with a silver poster board that read, Welcome to Star Command!" Once inside they heard the Toy Story
music and various other "space" tunes (Star WarsStar Trek etc.)Through out the house and on the deck there were purple and green streamers and wall decorations of Buzz. A Buzz
banner hung over the table.
Silver stars were hung everywhere with silver ribbon. The tables were covered with silver foil shreds and star confetti and purple and green flower bouquets. A few of Nicolas' Buzz Lightyear figures were placed around as well. We also had blue and orange wooden stars (from a craft store)that I wrote each child's name on and hung with silver ribbon. Each child took theirs home. Each child also took home a helium star balloon that was tied to a galaxy bottle (water bottle filled with half water and oil confetti stars glitter and blue food color then glued shut) This could have been a party activity but we did ours ahead. Finally my 5 year old daughter Maya my mom and I all coordinated our outfits with the party colors; including our purple toe nails! The party was mainly planned to be outside and many of our activities were unstructured. The activities were set up in a semi-circle around the yard and labeled with a neon poster board sign decorated with neon garage sale dots (taped to a folding chair). Here is what we had: 1.Moon Rocks-glass plant rocks hidden in the sand box 2.Space station-outside play house 3.Moon Walk (Little Tikes bouncy) 4.Spaceship Parking-battery operated jeeps 5.Planets-toy box filled with a variety of balls 6. Rocket Launch Pad-swing set(stars hung from top bar)7. Galaxy swim-little pool filled with silver confetti stars 8.Astroid Bounce-hop balls with handles 9.Comet Ball-balls with kite like tails 10.Flying saucers-neon and glitter Frisbees from the dollar store(each child took one home)11.Meteor Shower-water balloons 12. Saturn's Rings-hula hoops 13. Planet Pop-sit on a balloon 14.Pass the Planet-hot potato. After the kids popped their "planets" they were given a white lunch bag decorated with Buzz stickers and stars. Inside there were silver foil shreds star sunglasses (dollar store) a Buzz key chain a Slinky dog a glow in the dark bouncy ball that looked like a moon($store) a wiggly star bracelet ($store)flashing puffer ball (dollar store) to be meteorstwo tone blowfish puffer fish (dollar store)this was supposed to be an alien-I didn't notice the fins until I got home! For snacks I used Reynolds star shaped muffin cups as bowls for purple and green jelly bellies cashews (moons) bite sized Milky Ways Starbursts Orbit and Eclipse gum Magic Stars cereal and black olives (black holes). We had star shaped wildberry muffins star shaped cheese and crackers star shaped PBJspurple and green star shaped jello jigglers and cresent roll pinwheels(galaxies) For dinner the adults had taco salad rice pilaf and kabobs on the grill (I suggested by husband cut the veggies into stars and moons but that didn't go over to well!)We did have fruit salad with water melon stars and melon ball planets. The kids had Little Dippers-chicken nuggets and fresh vegetables and ranch in a star shaped muffin cup. Dinner was served on Buzz Lightyear plates and bright green Solo plastic plates with green and purple plastic ware with Buzz Lightyear napkins. I made a bright green punch and floated star shaped ice cubes. We had bright green plastic cups and Buzz Lightyear cups. The cake was a chocolate 13x9. Chocolate was my son's request but I think it would have been fun to either do a white cake and poke green and purple gelatin or color the cake green with food color and do purple icing. I used neon blue food color to color white frosting. I used a 3d scrapbook paper piece of Buzz and sparkly silver foamy stars to decorate. I wrote Nicolas' name with purple gel. I bought a cake topper that flashed and played Happy Birthday (from Hobby Lobby) and we lit sparkler candles when we sang. We ended the party sitting under the "star" lights of our patio umbrella and watching the kids play with glow sticks and sparklers."
