Toy Story for a 5 year old.  There were six boys and six girls at my son's party, and I needed to make sure it was appropriate for both. The invitations said Please come a-hoopin and a-hollerin to help celebrate Jonath's 5th Birthday Toy Story Adventure. Come prepared for lots of rootin-tootin fun by wearing sun protection and clothes that can get wet, painty and slimy!! When the children arrived they started with painting Toy Story colouring in pages that were downloaded from the Net, and I made sure there were some of Bo Peep and Jessie, as well as Bullseye and others. I had made a large bucket of bubble mix and an even bigger bucket of slime, which they enjoyed playing with if they didn't want to paint or draw. The first activity, I had painted a large picture of Buzz on some cardboard and cut out a black moustache, so it was pin the moustache on Buzz, which was inspired from the bloopers reel in the movie. Then we lined them up to take turns sliding on a slippery tarpaulin water slide. The next activity was a hit with everyone. They made Mr Potato heads from extra large potatoes and attached different shaped lollies to them with toothpicks to make faces, hair, legs etc. They looked fantastic and the kids loved them. Then I put in the slime some well-wrapped Toy Story character jelly lollies that they had to retrieve with kitchen tongs. I just had very basic party food, as I concentrated more on the activities and the children are happy with simple things. The next thing was an idea that I got from this site but I made it even more Toy Story oriented. I went to my local electrical store and got a large packaging box from a washing machine. I painted a picture of a car on the side with Andy and Mum in it, and cut a hole in the top. The aim of the game was to shoot the foam rocket so that it landed in the car, just like at the end of Toy Story 1. (These paintings were very basic I am definitely not an artist I drew the outline and my 5 year old and nine year-old painted them). This one was enjoyed by all, but was defiantly more of a hit with the boys. The slime, bubbles and water slide were still popular. Finally it was cake time. I had made Andy's Bed it looked great with bright red and yellow icing. The bed head was from chocolate-coated liquorice sticks. I had small Buzz and Woody figures, and Rex looked as though he was trying to hide under the blanket. The finale was a pinata that I had made with help from my children it was in the shape of Hamm his feet and ears were made from cut egg cartons and the nose was the hole that I covered with layers of round cardboard after filling it. Inside was everyone's party bag. I just got brown paper bags and glued on smaller versions of the colouring in pictures, which my 5 yr old coloured in and he wrote everyone's name on each bag (with a bit of help). While everyone was playing, a friend had laminated everyone's paintings to be used as a placemat, so the children went home with that, the party bag and the Mr Potato head. It was great it didn't cost much and my children enjoyed making everything for it and all the children thought it was a great party.
