Buzz Lightyear Party For my son's 5th birthday party he requested that we have a Buzz Lightyear themed party.  We invited 10 boys to our house.  When they arrived we had a table set up with Styrofoam rocket ships purchased on the Internet, paint, and stickers.  As the boys arrived, they began painting and putting stickers on their rocket ships. We then set them out to dry.   When they finished, they went outside where they saw a big Buzz Lightyear bounce house. The number of children attending worked out great, because they could all jump in the bounce house at one time.  After they jumped for a while, we brought them back inside where we had all the kids gather around a small table holding a rocket ship cake that I had made. I found the directions on the Internet.  I decided in addition to the five regular candles on the top, to add sparkler candles coming out of the boosters of the rocket.  When we lit all the candles, the boys thought it was really cool as the sparklers were shooting sparks. The boys sat down to a table with Buzz Lightyear partyware and blowers.  They were served cake, moon juice (punch), and I had made big star cookies on sticks decorated with icing using the Buzz Lightyear blue and green colors.  We ended up giving most of the boys bags in which to take their big star cookies home.  After snack, they went back outside where we told them we had a surprise for them. My dad came out of the house dressed in a Buzz Lightyear costume we had rented from a costume store.  Buzz Lightyear talked to the boys and gave them hugs. He then told them he had some things they needed to do to show him that they were strong and fit in order to help Buzz fight Zurg. He had them do five push-ups, five sit-ups, five jumping jacks etc.  The boys thought it was great and the parents were really laughing watching all of these 5 year olds try to keep up. Buzz then told them that he had an obstacle course for them to complete to again prove their strength and at the end they would fight Zurg. He gave each of them a green belt similar to Buzz's belt that he wears. My mom had made belts out of Buzz Lightyear green foam with a big pocket in the front. She then glued stars and planets to the front of the pocket. Each belt was held around the child's waist with Velcro.    The kids lined up behind the birthday boy and had to do a series of things we had set up in the yard.  They had to throw a ball through a basketball hoop, climb through a series of tunnels, and throw a Frisbee across a pool of water. Then they each had to fish a water pistol out of the pool of water using a net. They put the water pistol in their Buzz Lightyear belt.  They then had to find five moon rocks in the yard. The moon rocks were starbursts wrapped in tin foil. They put the moon rocks in their belt pocket as they found them.  After this they each got to take a turn fighting Zurg.  I bought a super soaker water gun and filled it with water. I also had gotten a picture of Zurg off the Internet and blew it up to poster size and had it mounted and covered in plastic.  I hung the poster from an easel.  Each child took a turn with the super soaker and fired away at Zurg.  The kids loved this and wanted to do it again and again.  They also were filling up their small water pistols and shooting at Zurg and each other. After this Buzz Lightyear said goodbye to the kids and left the party.  By this time the Styrofoam rocket ships were dry. We brought them outside where we showed them how to fly them using a rubber band and clip that had come with them. The kids were jumping in the bounce house and/or flying their rocket ships.  For the grand finale, we had bought a large rocket ship that is about six feet tall that shoots over 100 feet in the air. My husband had all the boys gather around and help pump it up to launch it. It would fly way into the air and the boys would run screaming after it.  They would follow it to where it landed and all the boys would grab onto it and carry it together back to the launching pad.  This was probably the biggest hit of the party as my husband had to continue launching it into the air over and over again.  At the end, my son gave each child a Buzz Lightyear goodie bag filled with Buzz stickers, a rocket game, milky ways, Buzz Lightyear fruit snacks, a star pencil, and other odds and ends.  The boys left with their goodie bags, rocket ship, and Buzz belt filled with goodies. It was a great afternoon.
