My 4 year old boy is really crazy about Toy Story. This year for his birthday I decided to take the key character Woody and create a Cowboy Theme. For the invitation, I created my own stationary on brown parchment paper.  I pre-printed an image of Woody, Jessie, and Jessie's horse with an cowboy print border. Guests were informed to dawn their jeans and t-shirts. I had a fifty seat coach round guests up from my little boys pre-school and take them to our country club just out of the city.  The weather in Hong Kong is really nice in October so the party was held outside in the old gazebo. An elaborate afternoon tea buffet was set within several colorful marquees.  The area was decorated with colorful balloons (supplied by the club)and Woody Happy Birthday decoration.  As guests arrived, the birthday boy handed out colorful paisley bandanas, assorted straw cowboy hats, and colorful water guns (approx. US$3/set).    We had a table set to the side covered in checkered table cloth to store the presents.  After refreshments we played a few games. I wanted ensure that the adults would be involved as most children's birthday are planned for just the kids and the adults are left out. We played 2 rounds of bingo and a birthday game.  For the birthday game; I had pre-cut little cards with the 12 months and 31 days and put them in a lucky draw. I started the game by putting up the birthday boys birthday and giving him a present. Then I had the birthday boy draw one card at a time to reveal either a months or day we continue until we had several winners (everyone was eligible to win).  Both these games worked really well as I wanted games which generated more than 1 or 2 winners.  Everyone loved winning prizes so that was my goal.  For prizes I had gone I had prepared roughly thirty assorted prizes.  My budget per prize was between US$.50 - US$1.50; this included playdough & cookie cutter sets; soft sea creature bath toys; nylon bottle holders for water; small towels; and cartoon character pouches. All the prizes was individually wrapped in gold foil paper and the kids could chose there prize.  After the games I split the children into two groups.  One group headed towards the playground and the second group headed towards the pony paddocks.    At the pony paddock, we used an instant camera so each child could immediately take home a photo on a pony.  I had 4 ponies and a stable hand to lead each child/pony around the paddock 4 times. In addition, I also arranged to have 2 additional ponies just for picture taking, this enabled the younger guests to also have photo's with the ponies even if they didn't feel confident enough to ride them.  Once all the children and adults had their pony ride we sang "Happy Birthday" and cut the cake.  The cake was provided free of charge by the club, I had asked them to use the same design (stationary) I used for the invitation and the cake turned out really nice.  For the border they used thin chocolate flakes broken into odd shapes to create the cowboy pattern border.  My little boy was over the moon.  As each guest got ready to leave they were given a brown paper wrapped box; inside was a box of puzzle.  In addition, I had made stick horses so each guest could take home their own pony.   I had made the stick pony out of Airplane socks stuffed with magazine pages that I got from free horse racing magazine (I felt this would give my horses my character) The stuffed sock was attached to sticks that I found in the local dollar store and I attached old buttons for eyes.  For ears, I used scrap fabric filled with cotton. These really looked good. I had some friends who didn't have any children, they even asked to take one home as souvenir.  Each year I incorporate a different theme for my son's birthday. Every year I am told by the parents it was the party of the year. This year we had a total of 80 guests. I spent roughly US$ 16/guest.  This included all giveaways, prizes, luxury coach, venue rental, F&B, pony rental, props, and decoration. Everyone that attended the party asked to be included on the invite list for next years party. All the guest that didn't make it heard about it by the next morning.  I even had a few parents beg me to do party again as they really regret not making it. My son has asked to have a Popeye birthday next year.  Already I am thinking of doing it at the beach with goldfish and turtles as giveaways.
