My son, Jake, and his two buddies decided to have a combination Toy Story birthday party to celebrate them turning four years old. We are dividing the back yard into two areas, "Frontier Land" (for Woody)and "Space Land" (for Buzz Lightyear).  We have created signs for each area and are tacking them on trees. For Frontier Land, I picked up two refrigerator boxes and cut one side off of each so they could each spread apart and have one back panel and two side panels to decorate. One of the boxes has become a saloon.  On one of the side panels, I painted a large juice box. In front of it, we are placing a cooler wrapped in a burlap bag (to fit the setting), filled with the kids' juice boxes for the party. Fortunately, a local coffee shop is saving several of their coffee bean bags for us! On the center panel, I painted the word "Saloon" real large and made saloon doors that open.  On the other side panel, my husband cut out a "window" and we are putting cowboy fabric on it for curtains.  Above the window (since it's low enough for the kids), I created a poster on Picture It software that has lasso rope, a cowboy hat and boots on it and placed the words "WANTED" and "10,000 REWARD". We are going to place the boys' picture on it. The other refrigerator box is the "General Store" and it has a small animal fur for the kids to touch (purchased this at Michael's Arts and Crafts store), a blue mailbox we painted with a slit in it, signs on it, such as "Boots 4 Sale" with a cut-out silver boot taped next to it. We're placing a bail of hay against one of the side panels and placing our shepherd's hook behind one of the side panels.  On the hook, we will have an example of the craft each child gets to complete which is a cowboy vest made from a grocery store paperbag. We have pre-cut them (and fringed the bottoms of them) and even placed a sherrif's badge on each one. The kids will be given crayons and cowboy stickers to decorate them and after a child completes his/her vest, he/she receives a lollipop!  A neighbor is letting us borrow their child's outdoor play log cabin and we are making a bean bag toss game.  Julie is making the bean bags from Toy Story fabric. For playing the game, each child will receive a small plastic paratrooper to play with in Space Land. In Space Land, our big splurge is a moon bounce to provide the kids lots of fun!  We will also have a short magic show and face painting in Space Land.  Treats for the party include Buzz lightyear cereal (not messy and good for the younger kids as well) and Buzz Lightyear Fruit Snacks. We will also serve pizza on the deck and have that area decorated and labeled "Pizza Planet" like in the movie.  For our cake, we are taking the boys' picture together in red t-shirts and cowboy hats and are going to get a sheet cake and have the image scanned on it. For goody bags, we are using the Toy Story treat bags and have them filled with related fun toys, such as army men, space rocket stickers, Mr.& Mrs. Potato Head plastic rings (from Birthday Express), bright colored small bouncing balls, plastic horses, and pens in the shape of an astronaut. All of the plates, cups, centerpiece, banner, etc... are the Toy Story themed ones which are really cute! To further decorate, we will use Toy Story toys we already have ... we have several!  Our party is just a couple of weeks away, but my son has been talking with his friends about it for months!
