I offered a child's birthday party as an auction item at a fundraiser for my church. The event was most successful. The theme was "cowboy" with inspiration from Toy
Story. The party was purchased for a 3 yr old, and held at my house with plenty of open space. Lunch was served as the guests arrived hungry just after church.
I rented a mechanical horse from an "Amusement devices" company (the kind you see outside of stores), which the children took turns riding. Also at this time my husband gave the children "bull rides" on our riding lawn mower which had a steer head decoration on the front. The decorations included 3 tables with "Toy story" toys to amuse the kids until everyone ate. These included puzzles, etch-o-sketch, pick up sticks, dominos, Mr. Potato head and army men. This kept even the older ones occupied. On a table was a burlap bag marked party stuff, which held 3 special party items. When opened it was full of newspaper and an old sock. I proclaimed "This was the work of Stinky Pete" who stole the birthday party. We formed a posse and followed the trail of old socks to the willow tree where we found a sack of bandanas. Continued to follow the trail to the pine tree where we found the sack of cowboy hats, then on to find the most important one, the "cowboy song". We followed the trail to a hole which had a treasure chest (cardboard) a shovel and some gold coins scattered around. We guessed we had scared off stinky Pete as he was burying the party stuff and pulled out the box full of harmonicas. Other activities included Pin the badge on the cowboy with a jointed cowboy decoration, with the children helping each other with "go higher/lower" etc. and receiving a sheriff badge after their try. Lasso the coyote, made from a wooden coyote cutout from a previous event. Harmonica sing to Home on the Range from the Toy Story 2 CD.
